My only New Year's resolution last year was to pay more attention to social media and post on here and on my blog more regularly. Well, that worked out as well as any other resolutions I have made! Just yesterday, I added to my blog for the first time this year and today is the first time I have sat down to look at this page. Part of the reason is that (a) I don't think enough about reaching out via social media; and (b) this has been such a crazy year that I haven't had the energy to post.
Now that this tourism season has pretty much wound up, I am attempting to rectify from absence from here.
This past summer has been EXCEPTIONAL! So much so, that it passed in a blur. I am fortunate to have so many returning guests whom I get to know a bit better each year and look forward to seeing and catching up. This year also brought so many new people who I was equally thrilled to host.
My poor hens (who are prolific layers) tried their very best but couldn't always keep up with the demand. I'm not sure how many kilos of meat I went through or pots of coffee or bags of flour, but I know the oven worked overtime and the washer and dryer seldom stopped. Last week, after finally ironing the last of the sheets and pillow cases, I moved the ironing board from my bedroom back into my sewing room now that I can finally watch TV at night without standing up working. I am enjoying this break but, at the same time, eagerly awaiting guests again.
Thank you to all who came this season - your vote of confidence means so much to me.
Parts of next season are already booked up which is so encouraging. In the meantime, I will enjoy the folks who make PEI their winter destination.

Lila (2006 – 2024)

It is with great sadness that I am writing to tell you that Lila passed away last night, December 3, peacefully in her bed.
Many of you will remember my adorable calico Manx that welcomed you as guests over the last few years. For me, she was not only the perfect kitty, but my last link to my mother. My mom adopted Lila in 2009 after my father passed away and she was living with me in Belfountain, Ontario. Then, after my mother passed away, Lila remained as part of the household and a reminder of my mom.
Lila made the journey with me to PEI in 2017 and wholeheartedly embarked upon our new life here. Even the two-day journey didn’t phase her, and it took all of 10 minutes in the new house for her to claim it as her own. She loved sleeping on the deck in the heat of summer and wandering the grounds. As she aged, she wandered less but was always happy to greet guests as she curled up on the living room sofa.
I am grateful for our time together. In Spring 2023 the vet advised that she was in heart and renal failure and would not last beyond that summer. In typical Lila fashion, she defied the odds and managed to enjoy another 18 months, and for that, I will always be grateful.
Lila is survived by her two best friends, Oliver and Mocha, who spent her last night curled up with her.
Safe travels over the rainbow bridge my little girl. You definitely were one of a kind and a force of nature.

Well, I think it's early spring here again today of the Island. Yesterday was definitely winter with the nasty freezing rain and snow that went through. Luckily, I didn't lose power and I got to take in some neighbours for breakfast who unfortunately were sitting in the dark. I think there's another system on the horizon but for now I'll just sit in the sun and watch the ice melt!

To all my guests, past, present and future: wishing you a very happy New Year. It is hard to believe that another year has come and gone. I remember my resolution at this time last year was to make a better effort connecting via social media. I did make a valiant effort to post but then the season started up and the days flew by, and before I knew it, it was Christmas again.
It is quiet here at the moment which has given me time to reflect on how much I enjoyed last year and all the wonderful people who passed through these doors.
I sincerely wish you all the best for a year filled with good health, happiness and prosperity.
For my guests returning this year, I am counting down the days until we meet again; and for my new people - I can't wait to meet you.
