Just so everyone is aware, I am closing my Writers Retreat as of the end of August 2026. My health issues, in addition to the increased cost of living, make this necessary.

On the plus side, a long-time good friend of mine has agreed to come and share my house with me. We aren't doing this because it's trendy, but many older women are finding it beneficial to share the cost of living together & benefiting from the companionship. My friend is a visual artist & we have taken artistic trips together in the past. I am really looking forward to having human companionship, in addition to my dog & her cat.

April 22nd, today, is Earth Day! This map, created by Terra Nova National Park, shows you exactly where I live in Charlottetown, which is squeezed onto a patch of land surrounded by forest park on 3 sides and butting up to Clode Sound on the 4th side. Yes, the Sounds are similar to fiords, reaching far inland but filled with ocean water. There are 11 trails of varying difficulty located along the TCH which runs top to bottom through the park, in addition to the Visitor Centre where you can visit several aquariums filled with fish and sea creatures or the petting aquarium. Plus, it is possible to rent kyaks and explore the Sound with groups or as an individual. This is just an update.

The past two years have been rather difficult for me, in terms of running the Writers Retreat. I was very ill, very long term, with a respiratory condition in the summer of 2024. I had no sooner recovered from that when I had a bad fall requiring an elbow replacement in the summer of 2025.

I am determined that I won't spend all future summers laid up. I now continue to recover from my elbow surgery, but I am well on my way toward healing. Do contact me if you are considering visiting the retreat in the summer of 2026.
