We highly recommend checking out an art workshop with when you visit Chemainus!

We attended their Mushroom Watercolour painting class a couple of weeks ago. They are offering this class again many times over the summer, and many other art workshops and classes. Here are the deets:

🎨 It was on a Sunday from 11-12:30 - excellent timing for those wanting to do something relaxing and creative on their vacation

🎨 Jennifer is an excellent teacher: kind, patient and funny

🎨 Bramble & Brush art studio is a 5 min bike ride or 20 minute walk from

🎨 Jennifer offers private classes: if you are visiting with 3 or more people, she’ll come to to teach a class of your choosing (either inside at the kitchen table or outside on the patio)

🎨 All materials are provided, so you don’t need to travel with art supplies. They also sell excellent art supplies if you need anything!

🎨 Jennifer was really accommodating of our 3.5-year-old attending too and they had a blast!

🎨 For those who are COVID cautious, this felt like a harm reduced way to go to an art class. The door to outside was fully open, and the space where you make the art is 5’ from that fully open door (good ventilation). We masked for the entire class, and this felt fairly easy to do. The class was only 7 people, including the teacher, so it was not a crowd.

🎨 Bramble & Brush is in the heart of Chemainus: a great location to go to lunch after class or get an icecream! , , , and Mount Breton Golf Course Restaurant all have beautiful patio seating and are very close by.

This is not an ad, btw, we just really loved this class and want to recommend it to guests! We’re also done private pottery classes with Jennifer and they were a blast!

We love the hermit trails! They are about a 10 minute walk from The Wayward Inn

When walking in there you feel like you are transported to a magic realm where you wouldn’t be surprised to see a fairy resting under a toadstool. 🍄

📍Alderlea Farm & Cafe

Worth the 25 minute drive from The Wayward Inn

We love the gorgeous patio overlooking the farm! And the wood fired pizzas 🍕 and burgers 🍔 are the best in the region. Not to mention the homemade desserts, including a f**ked-up good chocolate chip cookie 🍪. The kids can also visit the cows, which is pretty adorable.

This is a long lasting, multigenerational family farm. We are proud to and also any chain restaurant cannot compete with the charm of this place.

We always have a great time when we go there.

The Wayward Inn was featured in Chemainus Valley Courier this week, talking about how we offer sliding scale stays. Feel free to check the link in our bio to read the article.

We were excited to be mentioned in our local news, and to highlight our sliding scale! It’s one of our favourite parts of running a B & B. People who otherwise would not be able to afford a vacation can apply to book a sliding scale stay. The sliding scale application is in our linktree as well. The application is easy and it takes only 5 minutes to fill out.
