This weekend was full of excitement as we opened Camp Wegesegum for another season. Unfortunately, we were met with some discouraging discoveries as we woke up our beloved camp for the summer.
We are currently missing a red Old Town Discovery 169 canoe and a red river kayak. The canoe should have “Camp Wegesegum” painted in white on the bow. Please keep an eye out, and if you have any information, reach out to us or any of our board members.
Camp Wegesegum is operated by a volunteer board and supported through fundraising, donations, and government grants. We work incredibly hard to keep camp accessible and affordable because we believe every child deserves the opportunity to experience camp. Replacing expensive equipment is not something we budget for lightly, and losses like this have a real impact on our small organization.
We also arrived to find our private dumpster completely full, so full that we were unable to dispose of garbage from our own opening weekend cleanup. This is not a municipal dumpster; the camp pays every time it is emptied. Unfortunately, this means we are now responsible for disposal costs that are not our own.
We kindly ask that if you visit the property to admire the facilities, please be respectful of the site. Avoid driving through the field, as the ground is soft and the wildflowers are beginning to bloom. While we love that so many people appreciate Camp Wegesegum, this is private property and not a public park.
With camp season officially underway, if you arrive while the site is in use, please check in at the lodge before entering the grounds. This is important for the safety of our campers and for emergency procedures.
Help us keep Wegesegum beautiful for another 100 years. Everything we do here is for the kids; for the memories they make, the friendships they build, and the experiences they carry with them long after summer ends.
Let’s work together to take care of this special place for the next generation.
