Found!

Female beagle running alongside CB Hiway between Avondale and Conception Harbour. Clean, uninjured and friendly. Has a collar but no tags or info. My kids are currently taking her to Bay Roberts vet to see if she has a microchip.

Update: owner has been located and is en route to pick her up.

Call me at 709 853-4860 if you have info about this pretty girl so we can get her home.

It’s been a cold snowy winter but we are perking up here at The Celestial B&B and looking forward to warmer weather! Most of our yard plants are still in winter dormancy mode but the brave little crocuses at the base of the main house are up and blooming even as the snow melts. Their welcoming flower faces won’t last long but OUR welcoming people faces are always here and looking forward to hosting this year’s guests. Cool!

In 1866, the world’s first successful permanent transatlantic telegraph cable was landed at Heart’s Content, Newfoundland.

Before that moment, a message from Europe to North America took about 10 to 14 days by ship, if weather allowed. After the cable went live, the same message took minutes.

Heart’s Content wasn’t chosen randomly. Its deep, sheltered harbour, stable seabed, and direct line to Ireland made it one of the few places on Earth where the cable could survive.

For decades after, that small Newfoundland town quietly handled a massive share of global communication. Wars, financial markets, diplomatic orders, shipping instructions. All passed through a wooden cable office on the edge of the Atlantic.

At its peak, hundreds of trained operators worked there, relaying messages that shaped decisions made continents away.

Most people still don’t know that the modern connected world effectively began on a Newfoundland shoreline.

That’s not folklore.
That’s documented history.
