Customer Spotlight: Jane

We're excited to celebrate Jane, one of our dedicated paddlers here at CVK!

At 70 years young, Jane has been taking lessons with us throughout the season as she prepares for an exciting adventure to Haida Gwaii this July. Her commitment to learning, improving her skills, and building confidence on the water has been inspiring to watch.

Not only is Jane a strong paddler, but she's also one of the fastest paddlers on many of our outings! Her enthusiasm, determination, and positive attitude remind us that adventure has no age limit.

We're proud to have been part of her journey and can't wait to hear about her Haida Gwaii expedition.

Join us in wishing Jane fair winds, calm seas, and an unforgettable trip!

Safety and confidence go hand in hand on the water.

As part of our Women on the Water program, participants learn practical rescue skills that can make a big difference in real-world situations. This rescue demonstration shows an assisted rescue technique that helps paddlers safely get back into their kayak with support from a partner.

Practicing these skills in a controlled environment builds confidence, improves teamwork, and helps paddlers feel more prepared for their adventures on the water.

Thank you to everyone who participated and made the session such a success. We love seeing paddlers challenge themselves, learn new skills, and support one another.

Have you ever practiced a kayak rescue? We'd love to hear about your experience in the comments!

Last night's kayaking lesson was all about bracing techniques!

Bracing is one of the most valuable skills a paddler can learn. By practicing proper body position, paddle placement, and balance, our students gained confidence in handling unexpected waves, wakes, and moments when the kayak feels a little less stable.

These skills help paddlers stay upright, improve boat control, and feel more comfortable on the water in a variety of conditions. It was great to see everyone stepping outside their comfort zone and building new skills together.

Well done, everyone! We're looking forward to seeing these techniques put into practice on future paddles!

Ever wondered how experienced kayakers make paddling look so effortless? 🚣‍

The secret isn't natural talent, it's learning the right skills and practicing the right techniques.

In this lesson, we're working through a key kayaking drill that helps paddlers build confidence, improve boat control, and become more efficient on the water. Whether you're brand new to kayaking or looking to take your skills to the next level, professional instruction can help you progress faster and paddle safer.

Our lessons are designed to be fun, supportive, and tailored to your experience level.

Why is the Hullavator such a game-changer for kayakers? 🚣‍♀️

Loading a kayak onto a vehicle can be one of the biggest barriers to getting out on the water. The Hullavator changes that by bringing the kayak down to waist height, allowing you to load and secure it with ease before lifting it onto your roof rack with the assistance of gas struts.

It's perfect for:
✅ Solo paddlers
✅ Seniors who want to keep kayaking longer
✅ People with limited strength or mobility
✅ Shorter individuals who struggle reaching roof racks
✅ Anyone tired of awkward, heavy lifting

Instead of wrestling with your kayak, you can spend more time enjoying the adventure. Whether you're heading to a local lake, exploring the coastline, or planning a weekend paddling trip, the Hullavator makes getting there easier, safer, and more enjoyable. We do the installation for a small fee and teach you how to use it.

Ready to make kayaking accessible again? Ask us how the Hullavator can transform your paddling experience!

As good as the news can be right now, water quality testing shows that the Estuary is once again safe for paddling. The immediate area surrounding the Comox Marina is still under an advisory.

The recent sewage leak was disappointing to see, and our hearts are with everyone who cares about this special ecosystem. While the environmental impact is unfortunate, we are grateful to see conditions improving and that the Estuary is recovering.

We are happy to be able to paddle locally again and to reconnect with one of our favourite places on the water. Thank you to everyone who helped fix the leak.

We look forward to seeing you out on the water soon.

Meet our new team member, Sarah Rosen!

Sarah grew up around paddling, the daughter of two kayak guides, and has spent much of her life on the water. We're excited to welcome her to both our guiding team and retail staff.

She's helping unpack a fresh shipment of paddles from Nimbus Paddles, handcrafted just up the coast on Quadra Island. We love supporting local manufacturers, and it doesn't get much more local than that.

Nimbus has built a reputation for producing durable, high performance paddles for a wide range of paddlers and disciplines. Whether you prefer a super narrow paddle blade for reducing stress on your joints, a powerful sea kayak paddle for coastal adventures, or a whitewater paddle built to handle challenging rivers, Nimbus has options to suit your style.

Stop by the shop to meet Sarah, check out the latest Nimbus paddles, and find the right paddle for your next adventure.

What kind of paddle do you use most often?

It's been pretty quiet around here! These are the boats we had ready to go for a seniors lesson before we got the news about the sewage leak. What a sad time for the ocean. We are eagerly awaiting updates about a water quality test.

In the meantime we have been sending rentals and lessons to Comox Lake. If you don't have a roof rack, we have versa rails we can add on to your vehicle to ensure you can get a kayak safely on your roof.
