Vancouver Island Mountain Centre

Vancouver Island Mountain Centre The Vancouver Island Mountain Centre offers group accommodation, a public fitness centre and adventure programming at Mt. Washington, BC.

The Vancouver Island Mountain Centre opened its doors on a brilliantly sunny day on December 8th, 2011 up at Mount Washington, BC, Canada. Our Centre operates under the mandate to promote fitness for life principles; engage Vancouver Island athletes and emerging athletes in mountain sports, recreation, training and fitness; and to encourage public participation in mountain sports, personal fitness

and outdoor education. The creation of the Vancouver Island Mountain Centre (VIMC) offers new opportunities to enhance the lives of not only current and future athletes but also members of the surrounding community by providing access to a public fitness centre, meeting rooms and dorm style group accommodation all under one roof. A roof and building that also happens to be nestled at the doorstep of Paradise Meadows and Strathcona Provincial Park.

Vancouver Island Mountain Sports Society response to COVID-19

We hope that you and your family are safe, in good health and not too negatively impacted by the circumstances around the COVID-19 responses. As with many local nonprofits, it’s certainly been a challenging time here at the Vancouver Island Mountain Sports Society, including the recent closure of our Mountain Centre. Spring sessions for school groups have been cancelled. At this time, we are continuing with our planning and preparation for summer and next winter are monitoring the situation daily.

We understand the financial pressures that families are facing, however we at this point can only reschedule your group and will revisit that decision when we are back open.

During this rapidly evolving situation, we remain committed to the health, safety, and well-being of our staff, volunteers, members, participants and families. This work includes continuous communication with local health authorities, monitoring of updates from provincial and national governments, coordination with our municipal partners across the region, discussions with our peers across the country, and conversations with our dedicated staff team.

Please don’t hesitate to reach out with any email questions, but as the centre is closed – responses will be delayed, thank you for understanding.

Please note due the current circumstances we are not answering phone inquiries at this time.

Our Story

The Vancouver Island Mountain Centre opened its doors on a brilliantly sunny day on December 8th, 2011 at Mount Washington, BC, Canada. Located in a beautiful alpine environment adjacent to Raven Lodge and nestled at the doorstep of Paradise Meadows trailhead and Strathcona Provincial Park.

The Vancouver Island Mountain Centre is a multi use group accommodation and recreational facility operated by the non-profit Vancouver Island Mountain Sports Society (VIMSS). As VIMSS continues to evolve, it has recognized that outdoor education and environmental awareness are areas that the Society can provide. With a multitude of programming options, the Mountain Center has become home to a wide variety of groups in every season.

For athletes of all levels, the Vancouver Island Mountain Centre is a central hub where they can meet, stay and access a modern gym. In addition, there are offices for coaches and staff, group accommodations and two meeting rooms to review training runs and host journalists during events.

The Mountain Centre also serves as a classroom for school and youth groups, providing a community venue in the alpine environment for many other types of groups. The Centre provides low cost access to the wilderness environment, reducing barriers for all segments of the community.
