The riddle / L'énigme
Begin your quest where the titans froze,
In the shadow of the Ancient Bone,
Where the earthâs red fire once arose,
To stand as a king on a salt-washed throne.
Follow the curve where the river dies,
To the Latticed Eye on its grassy hill;
Where the sun's first gold or dying fire lies,
Fix your gaze and hold it still.
As the first span was beneath northern skies,
So the second must go with a heavy will;
Fly to the place where the giants stood,
And the hollow shells are silent and deep.
Leave the world of the living wood,
To where the iron echoes sleep.
As the first two marks were measured and true,
The next same span is waiting for you.
Seek the silent threshold of stone,
Where the crossing ended, and the bow was thrown.
Now leave the brine for the Kingâs paved name,
To walk where the inland shadows stray.
Follow the path of the royal claim,
To turn your back on the harbor bay.
Go further still to the shelf of steel,
Where the cold blue giants used to slide.
Near the place of the rusted, broken wheel,
That scorns the pull of the shifting tide.
Enter the forest that has no leaf,
A silver thicket in the gale.
A place of wire and high belief,
That waits for the breath of a phantom sail.
Walk the spine where the two worlds meet,
With the abyss to your left and right.
Until the journey is finally complete,
At the base of the constant spark.
The red and the white will show you the way,
To the end of the wall where the spray is blown.
Look where the salt and the shadows play,
To find what is yoursâand yours alone.
