The Westminster Hotel

The Westminster Hotel The Romance Capital of the Yukon! The Westminster Hotel has been a part of Dawson City since the early 1900's. The Tavern is open daily from 9 a.m. to 11 p.m.

The building itself is a veritable patchwork quilt of Yukon history, with different sections at one time serving as offices for the Klondike Thawing Machine Co., a grocer's, a boarding house, a diner and ice cream shop, and, most recently and perhaps most notoriously, as a bar and hotel. The Westminster Hotel was originally registered to a Mr. Vinnicombe, but the collective local memory reaches ba

ck only as far as John "Curly" Salois, who later sold the business to his nephew Fabien, and Fabien's wife Eileen. Fabien and Eileen ran the Westminster hotel, beer parlour and cocktail lounge until the early 1990's, when the infamous Duncan Spriggs purchased the business. For the last 20 years, The Westminster, known to the locals as "The Pit", has played host to countless birthdays, Christmas dinners, and wakes. We're your first stop when you get back to town, and your last before you get outta Dodge. You can count on us to bring you the best in live music, be it local talent or bands from across the country. Whether it's a cheap room, a cheap beer, or stellar entertainment (and never a cover charge), the Westminsta's got it for you! Tel.: (867) 993-5339
The Lounge is open nightly from 4 p.m. to 2 a.m. Tel.: (867) 993-5463

Live local music every weekend and bands from Outside whenever we can get 'em!

We are looking for accommodation for some performers who would prefer a quieter place to stay this festival.
Please email [email protected] if you are able to help out!

We have lost a dear old friend.
It’s taken some time to be able to find the words. What an impossible task, to put words to the feeling that we are all carrying around in our hearts right now.
There’s no way to properly express the importance of The Westminster Hotel, or the gratitude we hold for all of you.
The Pit was raw, rough around the edges and undeniably filled with magic.
It was the place of safekeeping for loved ones who have passed on, the meeting place for every kind of celebration, the setting for all types of shenanigans and forever bursting with music. Our monolith to homecoming, you were never truly back home until you had walked through the Tavern’s front door.
We want to thank you all for the compassion with which you have held the Pit family during this terrible time. Thank you to the Firefighters, Tobias Graf for forever being in our corner, and of course to our beloved patrons. The spirit of the Westminster will always be safe in your hands and deftly carried for years to come.
As we navigate the next steps we ask that you please leave the old girl as she lies. We will update you all as we figure out our future in the coming days.
We love you all so dearly,
❤️ The Pit Crew
