A personal message from Kyle:
As you may know, I like to personally sign off for the year. 2026 seemed like it was going to be a stressful year from the start. For those who don’t know, I came in on the same plane as the first group because ice out was so late. We came in on June 1, two weeks after when I would have liked to come in. When we flew to North Caribou, it was 80 degrees but there was still a 200 yard wide ice flow on the lake - it was incredible. I’m still shocked (and maybe lucky) that by the time the second plane arrived with the rest of the group we (yes we. The guys certainly helped get things in order) managed to have all the boats ready. This at the very least was a sign that even if things felt like they wouldn’t work, they would as long as I had faith.
Throughout the summer, I focused on improvements for the camp, chiefly new floors in the boats. I’ll work on recovering the cubbies next year, but what has been done so far makes them seem like new vessels already. Truly thanks to Jessica because if it wasn’t for the fires in Armstrong that grounded her here for an extra 2 weeks, I don’t think they would have been done. Blessing in disguise I suppose despite the added and obvious headaches that all caused.
Other upgrades that happened this year: new small cabin BBQ, small cabin dock, lots of brush and trees cleared, cookhouse interior sanded down - both thanks to the Oster family, new roof on my cabin, drinking water upgraded to reverse osmosis and UV treated instead of simply boiling. That was just this year. You can be rest assured that I truly do listen to all clients who come through here and I take in to consideration suggestions for further improvements. I always say that I can’t be better if I don’t know what you need, so I always appreciate all suggestions, and there’s plans to implement some of them already!
Once again, thanks to Rusty Myers Flying Service and Outposts for their terrific service. The way they helped us out this year was astounding. Also thanks to Trapper's Point Camp for hosting our clients on Thursday nights after we had to evacuate Armstrong.
On a personal note, most of you know what this business, job and frankly this lifestyle means to me. I don’t take for granted being in such a unique position in life and it’s because of your support I can do this and be truly happy with what I do. Hospitality is my calling, but specifically this. I’ve come a long way from the city kid I was, not even knowing things like this existed. So thank you to anyone who has ever come onto our dock.
