It is with sadness that we announce the closure of IslandSkye Bed and Breakfast. It has been five wonderful years of welcoming guests from around the world. Thank you for all your support.

We are NOT moving. We will continue to welcome family and friends once COVID 19 has been resolved and the vaccines has been fully distributed.

Stay well, stay safe and be kind.

Paul and Val Borthistle

The fall colours in the garden at IslandSkye continue to amaze me. It is now well into October and something new comes out every couple of days. We have nerine lilies, asters, sedum, and berries on the cottoneaster. The California poppies just keep on blooming and the dwarf fuschia are at their best. The pomegranates are turning colour but will not ripen enough to eat. I love living in the Cowichan.

The hummingbirds keep us entertained all summer. One little guy protects the Cape Fuchsia from invaders all season long. Today there was a running battle for an hour. It was quite amusing.

It’s been five years since we purchased our property and named it IslandSkye. The gardens we inherited and have built upon were the love product of Jacquie Cadorette. Thank you Jacquie for the work you put in establishing this beauty.

This spring has seen the most verdant displays of those years. The relatively mild winter, gradual warming and plenty of showers have seen the gardens thrive. The tree and herbaceous peonies are waning, but the intersectional are still to come. They have plenty of rivals for show this spring.

Vivian, this post is at your request 😊.

There are well over 100 peonies on the property at IslandSkye and May is our most colourful month.

The planter box has a climbing rose, screened in to protect from the deer.

First peony of the season, 100 more to come. Every shade and type you can imagine.

We may not be able to have you visit right now, but we can bring IslandSkye to you.
There is a subtleness in spring flowers, soon to be overshadowed by the peonies, which are just getting ready to open.

Stay well and stay safe everyone and we hope to see you before too long.

In an uncertain time, a rainbow is a welcome sign. Photos taken this morning from IslandSkye looking out over Lake Quamichan towards Mt. Prevost.

It’s been a cool early spring in the Cowichan. The early Irises are beautifully small but brilliant colours.
