Bare Oaks is a year-round naturist park where the entire family can experience traditional naturist values in a modern setting. It is a life philosophy with physical and psychological benefits.

The fashion industry spent decades
convincing us to pay £90 for pieces of cotton to hide the body we were born in.

Naturism is simply backing out
of a bad deal.

When the camera is hidden in plain sight, what happens to consent? 👓📷

At Bare Oaks, photography is permitted only when everyone within range has given permission. Because smartphones made it difficult to know whether someone was taking pictures, we introduced bright camera-lens covers in 2019. You can read about that policy here: https://skyclad.me/camera-lens-covers-2

But camera-equipped smart glasses present a new challenge. They can look much like ordinary glasses, making it difficult for others to know whether they are being recorded.

BanRay.eu is encouraging homes, workplaces, businesses and events to ban camera-equipped smart glasses altogether. Its message is simple: “Your face is not inventory.” https://banray.eu/en/

Privacy and consent matter everywhere, but they carry particular importance in naturist spaces. 🔒

What do you think? Should camera-equipped smart glasses be prohibited in naturist environments? 🤔

Dolly Parton wrote these words in her 1994 memoir, Dolly: My Life and Other Unfinished Business.

It’s such a beautiful description of something naturists understand well: the feeling of freedom that comes from being completely ourselves, surrounded by nature, with nothing between us and the wind, the moonlight and the world around us. 🌙🌿

“What we’re left with is a distorted perception of our bodies.”

In We Should Be More Naked, journalist Arielle Yasmin Domb examines what happens when the only naked bodies we routinely encounter are sexualized, idealized or viewed in medical settings.

She argues that seeing a genuine variety of bodies in ordinary, non-sexual environments can help counter the impossible standards created by po*******hy, advertising and social media. Drawing on research linking social nudity with improved body image, self-worth and life satisfaction, she makes a compelling case for something naturists already understand: normalizing real bodies can change how we feel about our own.

It’s thoughtful, personal and very much worth reading.

What if improving your body image didn’t require changing your body?

This thoughtful new article from BBC Future explores research suggesting that social nudity can reduce anxiety about how others see us and help us appreciate our own bodies.

Featuring naturist advocate Helen Berriman and research by psychologist Dr. Keon West, it explains something many naturists experience firsthand: seeing ordinary, diverse bodies can help dismantle the unrealistic standards surrounding us.

Naturism isn’t about displaying the body. It can be about becoming less preoccupied with it, and discovering that acceptance doesn’t depend on looking a particular way.

Thank you to Helen, Keon West and British Naturism for continuing to bring thoughtful, evidence-based conversations about naturism and body acceptance into the mainstream.
