Beachfront Cabin One sits on the quiet western edge of the property - circa 1960s, semi-private entry, its own side yard. Walk out the front door and you're at the top of the Mabel Lake beach stairs.
Down at the bottom: the beach, your own fire pit, and water clear enough to see your feet. Two queen bedrooms, a fully renovated 3 piece bathroom, full kitchen, heat pump for heating and A/C. Comfortable for four.

September and early October are the quiet months out here. Warm afternoons, cool nights, and a fire pit that finally makes sense.

Here is what you get in September: Cooler days. No trailhead - lineup and cottonwood starting to run along the Shuswap. Cascade Falls without another car in the pullout. Enderby Cliffs without sharing the summit.

Everyone knows Mabel Lake for the water. Fewer people know what's behind it.

Pull up the interactive map and look under Sights, Hikes & Trails - there's a whole second resort back there:

🌲 Cascade Falls: off Lumby-Mabel Lake Road, then 15 km of gravel logging road to an unmarked pullout. Ten minutes on foot into a moss-covered canyon and you hear it before you see it. Glacier-fed straight off the Monashees, so the water is cold. No signs, no cell service - go prepared.

🪨 Enderby Cliffs: the big one. Roughly 2,200 vertical feet through birch and old-growth Douglas fir to a 50-million-year-old lava rim, with the whole Shuswap-Okanagan valley underneath you. Earn it.

🔭 Mara Fire Lookout - Morton Peak, the high point of the Hunters Range at 2,245 m. The BC Forest Service first built a lookout here in 1925; the tower standing today went up in 1950 and watched this valley for fires until 1998. It's a 9.4 km hike in along the old lookout pack trail, a full day, real backcountry, on an active logging road and in grizzly country.

🏔️ Hunters Range: alpine meadows and wildflower country in summer. Everyone thinks of it as sled terrain. In September it's yours on foot.

Heat, cold, heat, cold.

It sounds like punishment and feels like a reset button. Twenty minutes in the sauna, thirty seconds in the lake, repeat until your brain goes quiet.

Mid-August evenings are the sweet spot, warm enough that the plunge doesn't hurt, cool enough that the heat lands.
