Old Stone Inn

Old Stone Inn The Old Stone Inn Bed & Breakfast, located at 1202 3rd Street, Estevan, SK, is a charming & historic establishment.

Originally built in 1902 as a church, this old stone building has been meticulously converted into a cozy bed & breakfast & event space.

I was starting to think spring had packed up her bags, climbed onto a horse & galloped straight past Saskatchewan this year…but alas, she has finally arrived. All 22 glorious days of her before summer barges in later this month. 😕

One of my favourite things in life is planting things, watching things grow & creating spaces where people actually want to linger awhile. This is officially the summer where the yard at The Old Stone Inn finally stops resembling a gravel pit behind a prison movie set & starts becoming the backyard I’ve been dreaming about.

Huge shoutout to my cousin Starr Mercer & her hubs Cory, that own Oxbow Timber Mart for helping bring this vision to life. There will be decks, greenery, cozy corners, twinkle lights, herbs, flowers & hopefully a dramatic amount of me pretending I know what I’m doing with landscaping.

Here’s what’s happening around the Inn this month…with likely more surprises popping up because apparently I don’t know how to sit still.

🌿 TOMORROW ~ HER CIRCLE LUNCH
If you haven’t grabbed your ticket yet, there’s still time. This lunch is quickly becoming one of my favourite days of the month…a room full of incredible entrepreneurial women cheering each other on, sharing ideas, stories, struggles, successes & probably a few laughs that are slightly loud before lunch arrives.

This month’s guest speakers are Velvette Suteau, Shannon Mack & Bailey Yuriy, so this is definitely one you don’t want to miss.

🥓 FATHER’S DAY BRUNCH ~ JUNE 21
Father’s Day at The Old Stone Inn is going to look like brunch jumped onto the back of a wild stallion & took off at full gallop.

The four food dwarfs of happiness...Meaty, Eggy, Cheesy & Boozy will be taunting you from your plate. Loaded Caesars, savoury bacon-cheddar scones fresh from the oven, ridiculously good coffee, brunch cocktails & enough comfort food to make Dad loosen his belt notch halfway through.

Be his hero for once. Show him he raised you right.

🔥 JUNE CHEF’S TABLE DINNER ~ JUNE 19
This one is going to be OFF. THE. CHARTS.

Fresh herbs, edible flowers, spring ingredients, beautiful wines, interesting cocktails, storytelling, laughter & a multi-course dinner designed to celebrate the fact that winter didn’t actually kill us.

Only TWO tickets left to this one.

And because I’m taking a tiny pause from hosting Chef’s Tables in July while I sit in my new backyard sipping something cold & admiring my landscaping empire…this will be your last Chef’s Table until August's Producers Dinner 🥳

The rest of June is packed with receptions, private lunches, guests staying at the Inn, weddings, planning, cooking, laundry & me once again attempting to organize the laundry room…which appears to regenerate chaos overnight like some kind of haunted linen closet.

Nostalgia feels....
Can you believe that on June 15th it will be two years since I got the keys to this crazy stone church & started my thang?! Sometimes I feel I've been here half my life & other times it's like I blinked & two years snapped her fingers & disappeared.

Tickets & info for everything are on my trusty little website:
www.oldstoneinn.ca/event-list

Can’t wait to feed you all this month.

~ Laurie

🥖 SOURDOUGH IS BACK AT THE OLD STONE INN 🥖
…and if you missed Scott’s last class, let me just say this politely:

Don't make the same mistake twice! His class sold out STAT! Which honestly doesn’t surprise me one bit, because Scott Perrie is exactly the kind of teacher people hope for but rarely find....

Patient. Confident. Well-spoken. Zero ego. And absolutely stuffed full of sourdough knowledge.

Scott started his sourdough journey in 2022 after receiving a heritage starter from an artisan baker in Alberta, and somewhere along the way this became more than bread. It became a passion…one he genuinely loves sharing with people.

📍 MAY 27TH
🕡 6:30 P.M.
📍 The Old Stone Inn

This time, not only will you learn the fundamentals of sourdough bread and leave with your own starter to take home and keep alive (yes, you’ll become emotionally attached to it), but Scott will ALSO be teaching sourdough pizza crust.

And then?

We’re going to top the pizzas together, bake them off, sit down and eat like civilized little carb-loving villagers under the old stone walls of The Church.

Honestly…that sounds pretty marvelous to me. And yes…the bar will absolutely be open for purchases, because a cold beer or a lovely glass of wine alongside bubbling, fresh-from-the-oven sourdough pizza just makes sense.

🥖 WHAT YOU’LL LEARN:
• The basics of sourdough bread making
• Feeding and maintaining your starter
• Why sourdough has become such a huge movement right now
• The health benefits of long fermentation and natural yeast
• Troubleshooting your dough disasters before they happen
• How sourdough can stretch beyond bread into everyday life

And trust me…once you taste real sourdough pizza crust, there’s no going back to the sad cardboard stuff.

There’s something deeply satisfying about making food slowly. About learning an old-world skill with your hands. About creating something alive and beautiful from flour, water, salt, and patience.

Come see what all the sourdough fuss is about.

May 15th — Chef’s Table Dinner ~ The Kentucky Table

I'm back from 10 days meandering around the most beautiful state of rolling hills & horse farms. I did more than watch the biggest horse race in the world too....I ate. I drank. I paid attention.

This is what came back with me...a menu built on fire, fat, bourbon, and a smattering of restraint where it matters...

Seven courses with tantalizing conversation...

• slow-smoked beef brisket with peach & bourbon
• pretzel crusted lake trout
• a reworked Hot Brown that’s silky, salty, and just a little obscene
• buttermilk-brined fried chicken… but not the kind you’re expecting
* Gooey pimento cheese
• something with corn that will stop the conversation
• something with stone fruit that finishes it properly

And in between… little hits of surprise that show up, do their job, and disappear off your plate with a moan

Our Cocktail Program...
Bourbon-forward compositions
A complimentary starter of the classic, Mint Julep ~ unapologetic & strong
Curated wines, artisan beer & thoughtful non-alcoholic pairings available

Long table. Tight room. Plates landing fast enough to keep you paying attention, but slow enough to take in your surroundings

And yes—CTV will be sitting in because we've been noticed.

I've brought back the unbridled spirit of Kentucky for your enjoyment...join me at The Chef's Table Dinner this Friday!

The Grand Gesture ~For the moments that deserve everything.

There are times in life when a standard dinner reservation feels almost…insulting.

A ring in your pocket.
A milestone anniversary were you look across the table and think, “We did this…we built this life”
A birthday that marks a chapter, not just a number.
A quiet, necessary apology that deserves more than words and a quick glass of wine.

Or…your best friends come to town and you want a night that turns into a story you’ll still be talking about ten years from now.

This is that moment.

The doors to The Church open…and the entire building is yours.

Not a corner table or a section roped off.

The whole damn place.

Good china. Ceilings that stretch to the heavens. A table set with intention—linen, candlelight, flowers leaning in like they know something special is about to happen.

Dinner—completely bespoke.

Not a menu handed to you…a menu built around you.

Ingredients from the farmers I trust with my reputation.

A dish you once had on a vacation, recreated course by course like edible nostalgia? No problem.

A cocktail program that hits exactly where you want it…bright, smoky, playful, dangerous.

A wine list that leans premium, a little indulgent…because this is not the night to hold back.

Served with precision, but without intrusion.

Because the truth is…this isn’t just about the food. It’s about what you’re trying to say without saying it.

Maybe it’s just the two of you. And honestly…that might be the most powerful version of all.

Just you and them…in a room that feels almost sacred, with nowhere else to be and nothing else that matters.

Or maybe you make it four.
Or six.
A tight circle. Your people. Your moment.

Give The Grand Gesture as a gift…for people who deserves to feel like they are the centre of the universe for an evening.

Or book it yourself…because once in a while, life calls for something unapologetically over the top.

And when the night softens…you don’t have to leave.

You can drift downstairs to The Inn.
A room waiting.
The world quieted.
The kind of sleep that only comes after something unforgettable. Breakfast the next morning with a sigh.

The Grand Gesture
For the moments that deserve everything.

Because some things in life shouldn’t be said halfway…they should be served, savoured, and remembered forever.

Message for particulars.

May 15th ~ Chef’s Table Dinner Experience

My Dad’s sister lived in Cincinnati, and it was always such a big deal when we’d pile into the car and head down to visit Aunt Doreen and Uncle Charlie.

My uncle was originally from Kentucky, so quite often we’d cross the Ohio River and spend a day there. I can still see it so clearly… my little face pressed up against the window, taking in that lush green countryside dotted with horse farms… white picket fences stretching for miles.

Maybe someone talked about it, maybe I saw it on TV—I don’t even remember how it started—but somewhere along the way I became completely fixated on the Kentucky Derby.

Every year, I’d wait for the first Saturday in May. I’d pick my horse, cheer like mad, and dream about being there one day.

And then last June, my friend Roxanne casually says, “Hey… do you have any interest in going to the Kentucky Derby?”

My head snapped around, eyes wide, lit up like a Christmas tree…
“Are you friggin’ kidding me?!”

Most of my travel has always been based around food. It’s my compass. I chase experiences, flavours, places that make me feel something… and then I come home and try to recreate that feeling for guests.

So this trip threw me a little.

I wasn’t going just for the food.

But of course my eyes were wide open the entire time.

Every mile Roxanne and I drove through Kentucky, every stop, every bite, every sip—I was filing it away. Building something in my head.

Because that’s what my Chef’s Table dinners are.

They’re my way of flipping back through those moments that lit me up… and placing them in front of you, hoping you feel even a fraction of what I felt.

May 15th — Chef’s Table Dinner Experience

This one is rooted in Kentucky. In the Derby. In that little girl at the window and the chef I’ve become.

In my mind, the menu has been forming with every click of the odometer:

Bourbon peach brisket
Pretzel-crusted lake trout
Gooey pimento cheese
The Hot Brown
Fried chicken
Crawfish cakes
Cornbread pudding
Fruit pie

And the cocktails…
Bourbon-forward, of course.
And the infamous Mint Julep (this is no delicate little girls drink… it hits with both hands).

Hearty. Meaty. Boozy.
A menu made with soul and a little bit of courage.

There’s also something extra special about this night…

A reporter from CTV in Regina has asked to join the table.

So this is more than just a beautiful dinner.
It’s a chance to sit together, to talk about Estevan, to share what this place means in a world that feels a little crazy sometimes.

Your voice. Your seat at this table… it might matter more than you think.

Join me May 15th.
Around the big table.
For a night of bold Southern-inspired comfort food, great conversation, and a story told one plate at a time.

Mother’s Day at The Old Stone Inn ☕👑

I have something rather marvellous planned…

Picture this:

You walk into The Church…sunlight pouring through those old stone windows 🤞…china clinking softly…my Mum at the piano, playing like she’s been doing it her whole life (because she has)…and me—

—flitting about with a teapot like I’ve just stepped out of a slightly unhinged Scottish estate.

Honestly, it’s a sight.

This is traditional Scottish afternoon tea, done properly:
✨ Scones that make you want to weep with joy
✨ Savoury enchantments ~ moan worthy
✨Daintie little sweet things
✨ beautiful china & crystal stemware
✨ and a few fabulous little extras I’ve tucked in that your Mum is going to absolutely love

And here’s the deal…

I once poured tea for Princess Anne.
True story. The protocol for the actual brewing of the tea left me halfway between tea sommelier & a mad woman.

So this Mother’s Day?

Slip on your prettiest dress, because…

I’m bringing that same level of care (and mild chaos) to your Mum.

I’ll call her “Princess”
I’ll dote on her like she deserves
And you? You’ll look like the favourite child. Effortlessly.

Because this isn’t just tea.

It’s an experience you don’t just get any old Sunday in Estevan. It’s the kind of afternoon she’ll talk about long after the teacups are cleared.
