Effective at 12 p.m. (noon) Pacific Time on Tuesday, September 1, 2026, Category 1 campfires will be permitted throughout the Southeast Fire Centre, which includes the Rocky Mountain Natural Resource District and the Selkirk Natural Resource District.

Other activities which were previously included in the Category 1 campfire prohibition (The use of sky lanterns, and the use of wood fired hot tubs, wood fired pizza ovens and other wood fired devices unless vented through a structure that has a flue and is incorporated in a building) will now be permitted in the Southeast Fire Centre.

Category 2 and 3 open fire as defined in the Wildfire Regulation remains prohibited.

Fairmont Creek Vacation Rentals Update

We're happy to share that power was restored last night, and our team has been working hard to get everything back on track. We're pleased to confirm that all arrivals from today onward will be ready for occupancy.

A few updates from around the valley:
- Grocery stores and gas stations are open, although some dairy and other perishable items may be limited until deliveries arrive.
- Fairmont Hot Springs Resort pools and amenities are open, though temporary changes to operating hours may apply. Visit their page for the latest updates: https://www.facebook.com/FairmontHotSpringsResort
- Panorama Mountain Resort is open and operating with plenty of activities to enjoy. (Please note that Panorama's pools are reserved for resort guests.)

We're also pleased to share that the small wildfire near Coys Golf Course and our Timbers Cabins on Saturday was quickly contained thanks to the incredible efforts of emergency responders. There are currently no wildfire alerts or evacuation orders affecting Fairmont Hot Springs or the Columbia Valley.

Thank you to our guests, residents, local businesses, and community for your patience and kindness over the past few days. We'd also like to give a special shout-out to our amazing Fairmont Creek team, who worked tirelessly through limited power, disrupted communications, and changing conditions during one of our busiest weekends of the year.

It’s feels extra good to be home today! You are our heroes!!!

NEWS RELEASE: Firefighters Contain Wildfire South of Fairmont (Aug.2.26 5:30am)

Members of the Fairmont and Windermere fire departments responded to a wildfire south of Fairmont Saturday.

“We had a total of 12 firefighters on scene throughout the afternoon and evening along with four pieces of apparatus. We worked cooperatively with BC Wildfire crews including the helicopter pilots who did extraordinary work bucketing,” says Columbia Valley Rural Fire & Rescue Deputy Chief Jon Tames. “I want to acknowledge the residents who so quickly reported the fire, along with our firefighters and the BC Wildfire Service personnel for their tremendous effort today. Given the tinder dry conditions and strong winds, this call could have had much more serious consequences and I’m so grateful for this outcome.”

The fire broke out on the northwest side of Columbia Lake and is now contained. An overnight crew from Columbia Valley Rural Fire & Rescue remained on site overnight and they are hoping to complete mop-up today.

The fire is estimated at 1 hectare in size and no structures were impacted.

Effective at 12 .p.m. (noon) Pacific Time on Thursday, July 23, 2026, Category 1 campfire will be prohibited throughout the Southeast Fire Centre.

A Category 1 campfire refers to any fire that burns:
- No larger than 0.5 metres in height and 0.5 metres in width
- Used for recreational purposes or by a First Nation for ceremonial purposes

Also prohibited are the following equipment and activities:
- Air curtain burners
- Carbonizers
- Fireworks, as defined in the Fireworks Act of BC
- Binary exploding targets
- Burn barrels or burn cages of any size or description
- Controlled air incinerators
- Sky lanterns
- Wood fired hot tubs, wood fired pizza ovens, and other wood fired devices unless vented through a structure that has a flue and is incorporated in a building

This prohibition does not include the use of outdoor stoves. As per the Wildfire Regulation, an outdoor stove is a CSA-rated or ULC-rated device used outdoors for cooking, heat or ambiance that burns charcoal briquettes, liquid fuel or gaseous fuel and has a flame height that is less than 15 cm tall.
