Amazing volunteers working through blistering hot weather and wicked thunderstorms to help us knock out projects from the list.
They get free room and board, we get invaluable support that helps us keep the wheels rolling. Thank you!!!

The first loon arrived on April 13th. So far we’ve seen 4 and we usually have 8 to 10 by full ice off. We could have complete open water by Sunday April 19th.

The lake is very active with bufflehead and mallard ducks. The kingfishers are diving looking for food.

The water should churn and turn quite rapidly in the next couple of weeks and fishing activity will start. The resort re-opens for the season on May 14th. We still have some availability throughout the season so be sure to reserve your quiet wilderness retreat while you can.

We looking forward to seeing all your beautiful faces soon.

What a gift to live and work in the Land of Hidden Waters! After 10 years, we’re still exploring. The land of wide open spaces and very few faces. Doesn’t that sound like a BC vacation worth taking?

I don’t know what the weather predicting groundhog said, but we’re definitely looking at an early spring! It’s mild enough for the snow to melt. Grass and mud are already underfoot. The frozen lake is covered in water. I’m not brave enough to walk on it 😬.

We’re only at the halfway point between winter and spring solstices, so wintery weather is still likely. We’ll enjoy the milder days while it lasts.

2026 could bring the earliest spring fishing we’ve ever seen. Opening day for the Resort is May 8th. Remember to book your cottage early. We’re filling up fast!

The morning started at -21C but warmed up to -8 which brought out the neighbours for a friendly game of Crokicurl. Despite the chilly wind, it was a fun time for everyone! This is how we winter in the South Cariboo!

It’s become a tradition to carve out the crokicurl rink in our frozen bay by the Lodge. Despite the cloudy skies, some Ruth Lake neighbours came out for the inaugural match. Good times were had by all.
It’s been a mild start to the year so enjoying the fresh air has to be on the agenda. Life’s too short…go play outside.

Cold nights are upon us in the Cariboo and with moisture in the air, everything is covered in crystals.

The ice on the lake is safe to walk on so it won’t be long we’ll flood the crokicurl rink. Stay tuned for opening day. I might even brave the cold and try some ice fishing this year.

From our peaceful woodland retreat, sending you all tidings of comfort and joy.

The winter solstice has come and gone and each passing day is a little bit brighter.

During this morning’s yoga class, we were reminded to shine our light, and to create space in ourselves to let someone else’s light in. So that is my message to you this holiday season. Even if some social interactions are a bit challenging, focus on the light.

Thank you to all our wonderful guests in 2025 and to all of you who follow us on our social media. Before we dive into 2026, we’ll take a little time to reflect on the wonderful people and experiences that made this past year so special.

Have a safe and peaceful holiday season and let your light shine bright 🌟

Meteorological winter, according to the weather channel, happens on December 1st. On the calendar, winter won’t arrive for another 20 days.

Farmer’s almanac predicts a mild winter with lots of snow. If today is any indication, they may be right. Although this is the first significant snowfall, it came just after the ice set on the lake. We had maybe an inch of ice, so until we get some really cold temperatures, there won’t be any ice activities for a while.

I’m the meantime, we’ll carve some tracks in the snow and enjoy the quiet days of winter.
