Hello, June. ☀️

Not easily forgotten.

If you’ve been dreaming of a Country Estate, where mornings begin beside peaceful ponds, afternoons are spent in the pool, evenings end in the hot tub, and family gatherings stretch late into the night around the lanai fireplace, then Willow Ponds may be the country estate you’ve been searching for.

And if owning your dream property isn’t in the cards right now, don’t let that stop you from making summer memories. Escape to Chicken Island for a week. Paddle the kayaks, wander the beach, swim in the lake, watch the sunsets, and reconnect with the people who matter most.

The best summer memories aren’t always the most expensive ones—they’re the ones you’ll still be talking about years from now.

Happy June. Make it a summer worth remembering. ❤️

The channel was quiet tonight.

No boats coming or going. Maybe because of the cool breeze off the lake today.
No rush to be anywhere. Just the gentle sound of water lapping against the shore, a few boats resting and rubbing themselves on the docks. That soft, peachy golden glow of a summer sunset, and Chris getting a bonfire ready.
We bbq’d ribs, made a salad and roasted some potatoes while we watched Pawn Stars. 😂
As parents, we spend so many years in the beautiful chaos of raising children—repeated nagging to get up out of bed, jam packed calendars, driving, cheering, teaching, doctor/dentist appointments, homework, laundry baskets waiting to be put away, stepping on legos, breakfast dishes waiting to welcome you home at the end of a hectic workday, worrying, and wishing for just a little peace and quiet. And a good night’s rest.

And then one day, boom 💥, almost without warning, the house gets a whole lot quieter.

The kids grow up. Just like that. They make plans of their own. All that waiting for daycare payments to be over, wanted them to be at the age that they can stay home alone, waiting for that last set of braces to come off. And suddenly it’s just the two of you, sitting by the water, watching the sun go down.

You always hear them say, be careful what you wish for.

The quiet years arrive sooner than you think.

Hold your babies a little longer, say yes to one more game, one more story, one more drive, one more hug. Stop for two seconds to listen to that funny story they want you to hear instead of drifting away on your phone. These days feel endless when you’re in them, but they are gone in the blink of an eye. Just like that.
I’m still guilty, I still find myself saying that “I can’t wait”‘for this or that. Just wishing it all away by accident.
Tonight, I have to pause. I’m grateful for the peace, the sunset, and my man bestie beside me—but also for the reminder of just how quickly life moves.

Don’t take these blessings lightly. 🤍 (advice to self)

This is my favourite time of day.

i’ve always maintained that, no matter where I live in the world or who I share it with, the sunset, remains the most exquisite moments of a long day.

The house glows with copper, gold, pink, orange. The ponds twinkle and shimmer, the pool catches the last little flickers of sunlight, and the water reflects off the walls in the most luscious way. And everything is still.

After a busy but beautiful long weekend, tonight was for resting the soul, mind and body.

No traffic. No blaring horns. No sirens. No chaos. No noise except the birds, the wind in the willows, the water, and the quiet stillness. Nature’s pause.

It git to be cozy/lazy time — leftovers for whoever wanted them or fend for yourself, (after a weekend of three meals a day with no dishwasher, that felt fair) a bowl of yogurt and fresh fruit for me, an early bath, softest jammies, cool air conditioning after a scorching day, and a book (I won’t divulge the embarrassing sexy s**t of a book I’m reading at the moment)on the sofa while the sunset filled the walls with light.

Sometimes peace looks and feels and IS, exactly like this. ✨🤍

Peace out. ✌️

Long weekends at the cottage always seem to stretch time in the best possible way. ☀️I need more Chicken Island time in my life!
Friends arrived with their kiddos, the dogs made new best friends with every boat that pulled in, and somehow the days were filled with everything at once — boat rides down the river, little feet racing down the sand hills, golf rounds, hacky sack revivals in Grand Bend, campfires, fireworks, card games, naps, good books, and dinners that turned into long conversations around the table.

We had the kind of weather you wish you could bottle up and save for February. The sunsets stopped us in our tracks every single night, the cottage is finally opened up for the season, and after one last deep clean before heading home, I’m leaving feeling rested, grateful, sun-kissed, and already counting down until the next weekend back.

There’s just something about seeing the neighbours again, hearing kids laughing on the beach, and watching the dogs wander happily from person to person that reminds you summer really has arrived. 🤍

Cheers!

There’s just something about that very first sunset at Chicken Island that feels like the official start of summer. The boats and docks are back in the water, the sand is warm again, and suddenly life slows down in the best possible way. 🌅✨
It’s all things good. Sleep-ins, better non rushed meals, good company, beach days, board games, movie nights, campfires. All the things we wait all winter to get back to.

After a long Canadian refrigeration season, this view never gets old.
Such a “Welcome back, you!”

Binoo sits at the window every evening watching the dogs run like a wild pack, taking over the neighbourhood. Pretty sure he’s debating two very important options:

1. Join them, or die with envy.
2. Feverishly planning his attack to take them all out one by one. 🤍

Honestly… it’s most likely 10/90.

Little touches of God’s masterpieces everywhere. You don’t have to look far when you’re at Willow Ponds. 🌸🌺

Sixteen years ago today, on May 9th, 2010 — which also happened to be Mother’s Day that year — I received one of the most incredible gifts of my life. ❤️

Eli was due on April 28th, but my midwives were letting nature take its course. Apparently, he was just waiting for the perfect moment to arrive.

The night before he was born, Chris and I had spent hours making food for our Mother’s Day family gathering the next day. And because we clearly had way too much energy at midnight while I was very pregnant, we decided it would also be the perfect time to renovate the mudroom.

So there we were after midnight, tearing out cabinets, ripping up flooring, emptying cupboards, making an absolute disaster of the house. At around 3:30 in the morning, we finally looked at each other and said we better get some sleep or we’d never survive entertaining family the next day.

At 6:11 a.m., I woke up with one massive contraction.

Nineteen minutes later, I was sitting in the bathtub holding my baby boy in my arms.

He came into this world fast and furious. I still remember pulling him up out of the water onto my chest and just holding him close and warm while we waited for the paramedics and my midwives to arrive. Shortly after, my mother-in-law came through the door, and with the help of the paramedics, she helped cut his cord and officially welcome him into the world.

In 19 minutes, I went from not having him… to holding him.

And somehow, the last 16 years have felt just as fast.

It honestly feels like I blinked, and now here we are celebrating his Sweet 16. In just two more years, he’ll officially join his four older brothers and sisters in adulthood, and I truly cannot wrap my mind around that.

Eli, I hope your life is filled with laughter, adventure, true love, meaningful friendships, endless learning, and as little heartache as possible. Watching you grow into the young man you are becoming has been one of the greatest privileges of my life.

Thank you for being the very best Mother’s Day gift I could have ever received.

Happy 16th Birthday, buddy. We love you endlessly. ❤️
