Got bats? If your home is giving more bat cave vibes than you’d like, September is the best time to act.

Bats are an important part of the ecosystem. They help control insects and they can be beneficial neighbours (just ask Batman). If they’re not entering human-occupied areas of buildings, you may want to let them be. But if interior access points can’t be sealed and bats are getting into your living spaces, there are options to get them to move out.

Humane eviction methods, like one-way exits, allow bats to leave safely while preventing them from returning and protecting both your home and local wildlife.

If you are evicting bats, ensure it is done safely:
✔ Act early – September 1 to 30
✔ A free permit is required
✔ Never trap bats inside
✔ We recommend working with a licensed nuisance wildlife control operator

See https://bit.ly/41tFvkB or contact the general inquiry line to learn more or to obtain a permit.

Great opportunity to learn more about the quality of our lakes, recent research that has been on going as well as how we can do our part to protect them. Keynote speaker Dr. Peter Leavitt of the University of Regina with no doubt will provide a very informative and engaging presentation.

The Qu’Appelle Valley Environmental Association will be holding a public forum on September 12th, and I was wondering if you could please advertise the event on the town website.

When it comes to elm pruning, procrastinate. The elm tree pruning ban is in effect until August 31.

Elm bark beetles are most active from April 1 to August 31. Regular pruning can resume in September. If your elm needs attention during the pruning ban, you can remove broken, hazardous branches or even the entire tree, but you must dispose of the wood right away in the designated location for your area. Contact your municipal authority to find out about proper elm wood disposal.

Do you have a life jacket collecting dust in your garage, cabin, or boat?

The ARSU One Team is hosting a Life Jacket Donation Drive to help make water safety more accessible in our community.

We’re looking for new or gently used life jackets in all sizes from infant to adult. Donated life jackets will help stock our life jacket loaner stations so more families can enjoy the water safely.

Before donating, please make sure your life jacket:
✔ Is in good condition
✔ Has working buckles and straps
✔ Has no rips, tears, or missing flotation material

Every donated life jacket helps make our lakes a little safer.

📍 Drop-off Location: Esso (403 Boundary Ave S, Fort Qu Appelle)
