There are some evenings here at A Day's Getaway when you find yourself sitting quietly at a picnic table, listening to the waves roll in from the North Atlantic, and you realize just how little a person truly needs to feel rich.

A gentle sea breeze. The sound of the surf crashing against the rocks. A warm cup of tea in your hands. Family gathered around a campfire. The sky painted in shades of blue and gold as another Newfoundland day comes to a close.

This photo captures one of those moments perfectly.

Folks, life moves fast these days, but here along the coast, time seems to slow down a little. The worries of the world drift away with the tide, and all that's left is the simple beauty that surrounds us.

If you've been dreaming of a quiet getaway, we'd love to welcome you.

Here's another bird post for today, for the bird watchers.

This photo takes me back to a warm summer day last year when I was making the rounds through the campground. I happened to be over around Campsite #8 when I caught a flash of yellow up in the trees. Now, around here, when something bright catches your eye in the woods, you stops and takes a second look.

Sure enough, perched up amongst the branches was a Yellow Warbler ( had to do a little research , cause I have seen these kinds of birds but didn't know what they were called)

And what a handsome little creature he was.

He sat there carrying on like he owned the whole place, singing away without a care in the world while I stood below looking up through the trees. Against all the greens and browns of the forest, that bright yellow plumage looked like a little piece of sunshine had landed in the trees.

Now here's a neat little fact for you. Despite being no bigger than a handful, these tiny birds travel thousands of kilometres every year. They spends the winter down south where it's warm and then makes their way all the way back to Newfoundland every spring to nest and raise their young. That's some journey for a bird that barely weighs more than a couple loonies.

One of the things I loves most about A Day's Getaway is that there's always something to discover if you're paying attention. One minute you're checking campsites, the next minute you're standing under a tree at Campsite #8, grinning like a fool because a tiny yellow bird decided to brighten up your day.

That's the funny thing about life, isn't it? We spends so much time rushing around that we can miss the little things. Yet sometimes it's those little things, a song in the trees, a breeze off the ocean, or a Yellow Warbler perched overhead, that stays with you the longest.

Enjoy your evening, folks. The kettle's probably on somewhere, and the birds are settling in for the night. Take a minute to count your blessings one by one. Around here, some of them comes with feathers and a bright yellow coat. 💛🐦🌲

🐦❤️ Sunday Thoughts from the Swing Tree ❤️🐦

This photo brings us back to last June when the old tree that holds our swing beam was home to a robin family.

Up among the branches sat three hungry little youngsters, waiting patiently for their next meal. Every time a leaf moved or a shadow passed overhead, those little beaks would open wide, convinced Mom or Dad had returned with supper.

Did you know robins are among the hardest working birds in the backyard? While raising their young, they spend their days gathering worms, insects, and berries, making trip after trip from sunrise until sunset.

Watching them last year was a gentle reminder that life isn't always about rushing ahead. Sometimes it's about caring for what matters most and being thankful for what's already around us.

As you enjoy your Sunday today, maybe take a few moments to count your blessings. And not just count them ,see if you can actually name them one by one.

The people you love.
The home that shelters you.
The food on your table.
The laughter you've shared.
The memories you've made.
The beauty of another sunrise.
The simple gift of being here today.

Some days we think we don't have much, until we start naming our blessings and realize the list is longer than we imagined.

From our little corner of Newfoundland to yours, enjoy the day, cherish the simple things, and may your heart be as full as that little nest was last June. ❤️🍃

We still have some availability left for the summer months, June , July and August if you are looking for a campsite... Especially have some availability for our ocean view campsites. Just send us a message on our page or call 709-534-6128, or email [email protected].

Well folks, the wind had no plans of taking a day off today.

From morning ,straight through until evening, it came rolling in off the Atlantic with a bite to it, carrying rain, drizzle, fog and enough chill to make you wonder if Mother Nature forgot to check the calendar. The ocean was restless all day long. Waves crashed against the shoreline, sending salty mist high into the air, while the clouds hung low over the coast as if they were determined to stay awhile.

Standing there looking out over the water this evening, I couldn't help but think how wild and beautiful Newfoundland can be all at once.

Now some folks might look at a day like today and say it was too cold, too wet, too windy.

But not me.

Because these are the days that make a camper feel like home.

The kind of day where the rain taps softly on the roof, the kettle is always close by, and a good book or a favourite movie somehow feels even better than it would on a sunny day. Outside, the wind carries on telling its stories. Inside, you're warm, comfortable, and thankful to have nowhere else you need to be.

As we finished up for the evening and started closing the gate for the night, the most unexpected thing happened.

The sun showed up.

Not for long mind you.

Just a few precious minutes.

Long enough to break through the clouds and cast a golden glow across the land before disappearing again. It was almost as if it was saying, "Don't worry b'ys, I'm still here. Better days are coming."

And I reckon that's a good lesson for life too.

Now tomorrow, the campground will be closed for the day. Our current guests are welcome to come and go as needed, but Sundays are a little different around here.

Sundays are for resting.

For slowing down.

For resetting after a busy week.

For counting blessings instead of tasks.

It's a day to appreciate the people we've met, the stories we've heard, and the opportunity to share this little piece of Newfoundland with travellers from near and far.

And then Monday morning, bright and early, our gate will swing open once again to begin another week.

Another week of campfires.

Another week of ocean views.

Another week of new faces and new stories.

And this time, it'll be June.

June!

Can you believe it?

Seems like only yesterday we were talking about winter storms, and now we're turning the calendar to June. Yet if you stepped outside today, you'd swear it was early spring , it's nearly June and we're still talking about how cold it is. That's Newfoundland for ya ,always keeping us guessing.

Before I go, I've got one important question...

Who's got their vegetables peeled?

Who's got their salt beef soaking?

Because I knows there's a lot of kitchens around Newfoundland getting ready for a proper Sunday cooked dinner tomorrow. And truth be told, there aren't many finer traditions than gathering around the table with family after church, filling the house with the smell of a good Jiggs dinner.

From all of us here at A Day's Getaway, have a wonderful Sunday, stay warm, count your blessings, and remember that even on the stormiest days, there's usually a little sunshine waiting behind the clouds.

Well now folks, she's a windy one out there today.

The kind of day when you keep both hands on the steering wheel, especially along the coastline, and take your time getting where you're going. The Northeast coast is putting on quite the display this afternoon, with waves rolling in from the open ocean and crashing hard against the rocks below. The sea is alive and restless, sending sprays of saltwater high into the air and reminding us all who's really in charge out there.

I've certainly seen bigger seas over the years, but there's no denying she's putting off a spectacular show today.

Here at A Day's Getaway, our ocean view campsites are getting a front-row seat to it all. You can actually feel the cool salt spray drifting inland from the surf as the waves pound against the shoreline. It's beautiful, powerful, and humbling all at the same time.

But while the scenery is something special, we're also mindful of the folks travelling today.

The winds can catch you off guard, especially if you're towing a trailer, driving a motorhome, hauling a camper, or simply spending long hours on the road. There's no shame in slowing down, pulling over, or deciding to call it a day a little earlier than planned. Sometimes the safest decision is the best one.

This evening we'll be welcoming some guests to the campground, and we're truly looking forward to seeing them arrive safely. That's always the most important thing around here. Campsites can wait. Supper can wait. A sunset can wait. Getting to your destination safely is what matters most.

If you're travelling Route 330 this evening and the wind has you feeling a little uneasy, or you're simply looking for a safe place to park, rest, and settle in for the night, we still have availability in our inside campsites for the weekend. They're tucked away from the strongest coastal winds and offer a comfortable place to relax after a long day on the road.

Our gate will remain open until 8 PM this evening for any travellers who may need a place to stop.

So take your time out there, folks. Slow down when you need to. Give yourself a little extra room on the roads. The ocean will still be there tomorrow, and so will we.

From our little hidden gem along Route 330, we're wishing everyone safe travels and fair winds on their journey home. ❤️🏕️🌊

If there’s one thing us Newfoundlanders understands, it’s this… the weather around the coast has a soul all of its own. 🌫️🌧️💨

And today along Route 330, the weather was putting on one of its quieter performances.

RDF rolled in thick this morning , rain, drizzle and fog hanging low over the ocean like a heavy grey blanket. The wind had that cold salty nip to it too, the kind that finds every little opening in your jacket no matter how zipped up ya thinks ya are. 😄

Standing outside at A Day’s Getaway today, looking toward the shoreline, there were moments when the ocean completely disappeared behind the fog. Then just as quick, the mist would drift enough to reveal the waves rolling ashore again before hiding them away once more. It almost felt like the sea was breathing.

And honestly… it was humbling to witness.

Not every beautiful day in Newfoundland comes with sunshine and blue skies. Some of the most beautiful days are the quiet grey ones. The days where the world slows down a little. The days where ya can hear the wind through the trees, smell the salt air stronger than ever, and realize just how small we really are standing next to the Atlantic Ocean.

Now I’ll still say it , I’d take a good thunderstorm over RDF any day, long as the lightning stays away. There’s something exciting about thunder rolling across the bay and dark clouds climbing over the water. But there’s a peacefulness to foggy days too. A softness to them.

The kind of day that makes ya appreciate the little things:
A warm mug in your hands.
Dry clothes fresh from the dryer.
The glow from camper windows through the fog.
The sound of laughter carrying softly through the wind.
A safe place to stop and rest while travelling these rugged shores.

That’s Newfoundland though, isn’t it? It humbles ya without even trying. One minute it can be calm and welcoming, the next wrapped in fog reminding ya that nature will always have the final say.

And somehow that’s part of why we loves our province so much. ❤️

Our gate here at A Day’s Getaway will remain open until 8 PM this evening, just in case a few travellers are making their way along this foggy but beautiful side of Newfoundland and needs a peaceful place to stop for the night.

Drive safe out there b’ys, take your time on the roads, and don’t forget to take in the beauty hidden inside the fog. 🌊
