Lunenburg County RCMP has charged a New Germany woman after she reported an armed robbery that did not happen.

On Thursday evening at 10:30 p.m., Lunenburg District RCMP members, with the assistance of the Bridgewater Police Service, responded to a report of an armed robbery at the Cookville Irving. The clerk reported that a male suspect had produced a handgun and demanded cash earlier in the evening. The clerk further indicated that the suspect had left in a blue GMC Blazer.

At 1:30 a.m., RCMP came across the suspect vehicle broken down on Highway 324 and the suspect was taken into custody without incident. A search of his vehicle located a rifle, a loaded shotgun and a toy cap gun. A subsequent search at the suspect's residence resulted in another 12 long-barrel fi****ms being seized by police.

The robbery investigation continued throughout the weekend and it was later determined that the report of the robbery had been fabricated. A 26-year-old woman was later arrested in that town without incident. She is facing one charge of Public Mischief for the false robbery complaint and one charge of Theft for stealing cash from her workplace.

The male suspect was released from police custody, however an investigation into fi****ms-related offences is continuing.
