CABLE BAY FARM producing some of Galiano's finest organically grown produce on the Island..... every kind of wonderful vegetable delighting "foodie" guests from Vancouver & around the

world! Artichokes, Asparagus, Beets, Potatoes, multiple herbs from a 100ft bed, Beans, Squash, Onions, Sweet Genovese Basil (one of our specialties), Arugula & most especially GARLIC! The Captain's Quarters is an original 1894 Log House built by Captain Edward McCroskrie who raised his large family on Galiano at the turn of the century. The building has been lovingly restored to more that its former glory. There are vaulted ceiling upstairs, a queen-sized Norwegian sleigh bed, rubbed Amish furniture, full sized double sofabed downstairs and the house has been beautifully finished throughout by master carpenters using teak, fir & yellow cedar. It is 800 sq ft with an authentic ship’s ladder between the two floors. The Captain's Quarters is very PRIVATE; full kitchen & bathroom facilities. Close to beaches & great hiking. Unwind after in your own Hot Tub, Sat TV, fireplace; warm & inviting

Just cleaning our Captain's Quarters today and was greeted this morning by an absolutely lovely comment in our Guestbook from our last Guests.

We welcomed such a lovely couple this long holiday weekend to our 1894 Heritage Log House ~ the Captain's Quarters!

LOOK 👀 what marvelously creative they are! Scrumptious romantic dinners together using my Captain's sablefish and cold-smoked presliced sockeye salmon together with produce from our that we're always thrilled to share with our guests.

How thoughtful of Angela and Jarrod to send us these pictures of memorable meals ~ of course fun also is to lounge in CQ's Hottub after hiking and discovering !

"Thank you so much for your hospitality. Your Island is beautiful and just what we needed this weekend. I absolutely love the heritage feel of this little cabin and the whole island. The coastlines are amazing and the hiking was endless. It was so nice we were able to walk with the dogs right from the property to so many beaches. What a wonderful weekend we had!

Galiano's 1894 Heritage Log House the "Captain's Quarters" was built using the centre core of logs from trees felled to create the main field in the winter of that year!
☆
Captain Edward McCroskrie - a Scottish Sea Captain felled those trees himself then hauled them across with horse and cart. He then painstakingly squared each one off with a hand adze and joined them at the corners as a dove-tail construction.

He secured the plans for how to build such a log cabin from the BC Government engineers in Victoria.
☆
We've kept and were still able to use 29 of his original logs during the reconstruction incorporating them in their original positions in the rebuild.
☆
31 new logs were needed and felled by my husband (himself also a Sea Captain!) on our property to replace those that could no longer be used.
☆
Reconstruction took 7 years with three master carpenters gradually redefining a gorgeous finished interior. The work was eventually completed 22 years ago.
☆
Now we warmly welcome honeymoon couples; young people eager to discover Galiano often for the first time and families who come and explore our island's beaches and extensive hiking trails.

The Captain's Quarters is one of the last surviving settlers dwellings on Galiano Island. McCroskrie farmed this land and raised two families here at Retreat Cove at the turn of the century before much later becoming the Harbour Master at Prince Rupert towards the end of his life.

Our Airbnb guests have their own private driveway leading (of course!) off of McCroskrie Road and we have installed a large hottub at the front where it is sunken into a spacious deck area ~ The perfect place to unwind, relax and recharge........( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)

We greet all our new Guests with a package of Thomas Schnare's custom cold-smoked Sockeye Salmon and a welcome basket containing a selection of our farm's fresh and store organic produce...{~_^}

The Captain's Quarters is an original Log Home built by Captain Edward McCroskrie who raised his large family on Galiano at the turn of the 19th century. The building has been lovingly restored to more that its former glory. There are vaulted ceiling upstairs, a queen-sized Norwegian sleigh bed & additional sofabed, rubbed Amish furniture and downstairs a further full sized double sofabed. The Log House has been lovingly restored to more than its former glory with beautifully finished woods throughout including teak, fir and yellow cedar molded by two master carpenters. It is 800 sq ft with an authentic ship’s ladder positioned between the two floors. The Captain's Quarters is a very PRIVATE; romantic spot with full kitchen & bathroom facilities. She is close to the beaches of both sides of the Island & excellent hiking (laminated maps are inside the wooden box on the coffee table).
