The hostel is up for sale! My lease on the building is also over, so I too will be moving on. I can't believe its been 9 years! Ive met so many amazing people & have made lots of friends for life :) The listing gives a cool 3d walk through so you can have a little reminisce of your visits here. Im still in Golden for a while yet & will be moving not too far away so will very likely see some of you again very soon....:)

People travelling along the Trans-Canada Highway through Golden will soon see more crews working to convert the last 4.8 kilometres of narrow, winding two-lane road to a modern four-lane standard.

Sign of the times - Kicking Horse Hostel is closed as a hostel until May 2021 at the earliest. This winter season Im pleased to welcome the staff from Bellstar hotels up at at Kicking Horse Resort who will make this their home for the winter. Ive 6 months reprieve from telling people to wash their dishes!

A massive THANKYOU to Golden Nordic Ski Club for track setting Beaver today. I did not expect that! Today I was supposed to be running 5Km for the Moira Fund charity virtual race; due to the weather I thought a wee cross country ski would be more appropriate & was prepared to slip,slide & breakdance my way around the circuit! It may have been a much much quieter seaseon compared with normal, but I feel that has helped highlight some of the amazing people who have come through the hostel doors this summer. First in in were Alex & Cami, my first full thu hikers on the Great Divide Trail. They had endured the very delayed start to summer weather on the first parts of the trail & described how cold & wet some of their days had been. Not many folk do the full GDT, many stop at Jasper or carry on to Mt Robson. These guys went all the way to Kakwa. Where is Kakwa - where indeed! Look it up on a map - its in the middle of nowhere! Getting out from there is also not easy. Check out their short video - its a great piece for anyone thinking of doing the trail in the future & it also highlights the beauty of this amazing part of the world.

This summer has been ghostly quiet at the hostel with my main European customers being unable to travel to Canada. It has meant however that I have been able to reconnect with my long distance touring cyclists. Arie has just completed part 1 of his pan American journey; crossing Canada, something he decided to start in winter, Canadian winter! I love when people chose to give up "normal" life to go on an adventure. Hosting such folks is what makes running this hostel so rewarding. This summer has certainly put cycle touring back on my long term agenda; maybe a Golden to San Diego trip to catch up with friends once the border reopens....
