While we’ve been off exploring, the Pointhouse has been very much alive.

For the past four weeks, our posts have followed Off Point through some extraordinary places along BC’s Central Coast. Meanwhile, back on Sargeant Bay, other families have been making the Pointhouse their own.

This summer, we’ve welcomed whole-home guests travelling from Bali, France, Germany and Florida, while Aerie, Studio ISO and the Annex have continued to host visitors and returning guests closer to home.

The name Off Point is a nod to the Pointhouse and the rocky point on which it stands. When the house is in the care of guests and we cast off to explore farther up the coast, we are quite literally “off point.”

Longer whole-Pointhouse stays have allowed us to undertake this much anticipated voyage while giving guests something equally special: time to settle into the house, cook and dine together, enjoy the waterfront and gardens, and experience the Lido Spa in complete privacy.

Next summer, we plan to prioritize a limited number of longer whole-home rentals, while preserving selected dates for our B&B guests. Perhaps the Pointhouse could become the setting for your family’s coastal chapter—and help make another adventure aboard Off Point possible.

Exploring the beaches of BC’s wild west coast.
From sheltered Pruth Bay, trails wind through the forest to broad sweeps of sand facing the open Pacific—driftwood scattered along the tideline, rocky headlands and wave after wave arriving from somewhere beyond the horizon.
Pruth Bay is also home to the Hakai Institute’s Calvert Island field station, where researchers study this remarkable meeting place of land, ocean and life.
Foggy mornings have followed us for most of our trip and reinforce the feelings of remoteness for BC’s vast coastline and offshore islands. We’ve really only scratched the surface.

Enjoyed a soak in pristine Eucott Hot Springs followed by a dip in the bay. Relatively sheltered shallow anchorage but strafed by strong winds on our visit. Scanned the sedge meadows surrounding the bay for wildlife. Boaters we met in Shearwater had had perfect viewing of a mother black bear and cub right from the hot springs. We saw only lots of gulls and crows feasting at low tide. Well worth the journey though for this special spot. Off to Pruth Bay on Calvert Island next on our way south again.

A star studded event not to miss.

A star studded event not to miss.

Nearly 150 astronomers from across the Pacific Northwest will be in the ascendancy above Sechelt next week, as the Sunshine Coast Astronomy Club hosts its third-annual Star Party with musical accompaniment from local performers.

Took seabus from Shearwater to Waglisla, Bella Bella yesterday to explore some Heiltsuk history and culture. Beautiful territory and friendly people. Planning to check out trails at Shearwater and Denny Island today.

After many twists and turns following the different reaches of Roscoe Inlet, the morning fog lifted magically to reveal these towering granite massifs rising straight up from the ocean, deep in the labyrinth of waterways that make up the Central Coast.

Cruising north this summer for a much anticipated trip to the Central Coast. So far have seen humpbacks, orcas, sea otters and many fish jumping. First night on the hook this evening with moorage at Campbell River and Port McNeill the first two nights. Shearwater tomorrow.
