Yesterday we welcomed newlyweds Sean & Carissa to Beaver Cottage! ✨ We’re hoping the highlands pull out all the stops with some gorgeous September weather, and maybe our resident deer will make an appearance or two. Enjoy these next few days of rest & relaxation, away from that city life! ✌🏻

I don’t know how many times in my life I’ve stood in this spot, staring down the road.
… to start a run, a walk, a bike ride.
… to drive into town or head back home.
The road never changes. Sure, the leaves change & blanket the ground for winter. The spring melt creates puddles in all the usual spots. My dogs run up and down this hill all season long.
They say take the road less travelled - but what about the road travelled by generations? ♥️

Hello, my deer 🦌
Every summer we have a family of deer who spend time on our property (I’d like to think it’s some of the same year after year…)
It’s so wonderful to be immersed in nature and away from the hustle and bustle of the city. A quiet moment spent on the road, a mutual respect for each other. ♥️ I love the critters who allow us to cottage in their woods, and we try to keep it as natural as possible 🌱

Calm.

This is what I’ve always felt when I’m near the water. Any water, really.

I’ve felt extreme peace and gratitude sitting on the sand at Juno Beach watching the waves hit the shore. I’ve felt peace sitting by the River that runs through my hometown.

But never in my life have I felt more at peace than when I’m at Soyers. Last night, I stood on the dock, alone, staring at the sky as Jupiter, Saturn and the Moon were aligned. The waters so still, and the sky so clear. A subtle reminder from nature to s l o w d o w n
and rest. 🙏🏻
