Dear Friends

Our journey started the 1st of April 1984.
I had flown in the day before from Paris and arrived in a place
that could only be truly described as a perfect postcard of Canada.

The silence and the sounds were at first disconcerting, very different
from those on Isle St Louis but in the morning you could not help but
feel restored.
The early dew on the grass around the cabins and the morning fog on
the calm waters of Drag Lake were always magical.
I guess that's when we decided to change the name, to Domain of Killien
Over the years we had lots of laughs, lots of tears and made many friends.

One day maybe someone will write a book on why a Count and Countess
fell in love with the Haliburton Highlands. But for now, we would like
to say thank you to all of you that came, understood, and shared with
us, year after year, our little piece of Paradise.

I sincerely hope that after 28 years you all have now mastered
"The Art of Doing Nothing Beautifully ".

From the Count and Countess de Moustier, Jean Edouard de Marenches, all the staff over the years and myself, we say goodbye.

Saturday October 15th the Domain of Killien hosted a special evening. We wanted to celebrate the traditional french country cuisine. Tonight our Chef Emily prepared a fantastic menu around a fabulous pot-au feu (literally: "pot in the fire"), a traditional wintry beef stew, the quintessence of French family cuisine. The Pot au feu is the most celebrated dish in France and tonight the dish was also celebrated in the heart of the Haliburton Highlands :-) For the occasion we redecorated our fine dining room to give it a look of an authentic "Auberge" our guests were delighted and greatly encouraged us to repeat the experience more often. Thank you to our fabulous team that allowed us to make this evening a great event and thank you so much to our guests who have trusted us and encouraged us. (voluntary we do not publish pictures of the evening on Facebook in order to respect the privacy of our guests, but trust us it was fun!)

On Saturday October 15, we will transform the dining room into an intimate Auberge. Come and share "campagnarde" cuisine together with other guests, and enjoy the atmosphere and tradition of the French Countryside. We still have space available for the weekend so give us a call: 1 800 390 0769
