There hasn’t been an awful lot of time for making reels or taking photographs lately , as The Pebble has been exceptionally busy . In fact , this has been our busiest season yet , and after 28 years , that’s a pretty good feeling .

I love what I do even more today as when I started , and after all these years seeing the business continue to grow is especially rewarding .

So, just a few glimpses from tne past few weeks - in between breakfasts , arrivals , departures and everything else that fills tne days around here .

WHY CHOOSE A GUESTHOUSE

Hotels ,holiday rentals and guesthouses are all wonderful choices . They simply suit different people .

This reel is my way of explaining why some travellers choose a small , owner hosted guest house . It’s how we’ve chosen to welcome people at The Pebble .

I simply love what I do , and nothing makes me happier than helping people leave with wonderful memories of their stay at The Pebble & Halifax .

Sometimes , beautiful things come together to tell a story .

Two handmade vases by my friend Heather HEATHER WAUGH PITTS CERAMICIST , whose ceramics have found homes around tne world .

Armfuls of freshly picked , fragrant sweet peas from my friend Nicole’s flower farm Nicole Lapierre | Indigenous Photographer & Florist

When I look at the vases , I don’t just see ceramics . I see Heathers studio , filled with beauty & creativity to take in , never knowing where to look first .

When I look at the sweet peas , I don’t just see flowers . I hear the gentle tap on the glass of my back kitchen door and see Nicole standing there with armfuls of perfumed sweet peas in the softest colours .

The things we surround ourselves with carry tne people we love and the people who show us love .

When we bought The Pebble, we inherited an established garden filled with colour . The trouble was , I hadn’t grown up with a garden.

I grew up in the middle of a town in County Kerry , so I had no instinct for what to plant , what to move , or what to leave alone . To be perfectly honest ,I didn’t even know what was a w**d and what wasn’t .

Eventually I realized I couldn’t garden from a place of fear . So , I made one simple decision . Green and white .

Twenty five years ago , green and white wasn’t everyone’s first choice but to me it felt peaceful . It felt calm and I thought if I keep it simple I can’t go too far wrong .

Little by little , season by season , my confidence grew . Today , there are still the familiar climbing hydrangea , peonies , ranunculi , mock orange and narcissi but more than that , there’s a garden that finally feels like mine .

Looking back , I realize I wasn’t really creating a colour palette . I was creating a place that felt the way I wanted people - and myself - to feel .

Peaceful .
