During his residency at The Parcelles in Lac-Beauport, composer and sound artist Lawrence Moon / transformed the cottage into a quiet listening space, recording field sounds and beginning the score for a short film directed by longtime collaborator Jean-Christophe Yelle/ .

Working between ambient music, field recording, and cinematic sound design, his practice explores solitude, connection, and the emotional landscapes carried through sound.

Lawrence reflects on creativity as a grounding practice, the influence of fatherhood on his artistic life, and the importance of protecting space to create.

“I grew up with my Indigenous grandparents by a river, running barefoot through the grass, gathering little stones and catching frogs. Those moments shaped my first connection to creativity: playful, tactile, and free.”

« J’ai grandi avec mes grands-parents autochtones au bord d’une rivière, à courir pieds nus dans l’herbe, à ramasser de petites pierres et à attraper des grenouilles. Ces moments ont façonné mon premier lien à la créativité : ludique, tactile et libre. »

During her residency at The Parcelles in Lac-Beauport, ceramic artist Rose Côté (.studio ) worked closely with clay, shaping functional pieces meant to be used, held, and lived with.

Through her studio Bouette, her practice embraces texture, irregularity, and a deep connection to nature.

Her time here became an opportunity to slow down, focus on one piece at a time, and document her work—something often hard to do in the rhythm of daily life.

Composer and sound artist set up his studio at The Parcelles in Lac-Beauport a few weeks ago, where he recorded the quiet chaos of nature in the field and captured ambient sounds for the soundscape of a short film produced by Jean-Christophe Yelle (.qc )

“I view the creation of ambient music much like a sculptor working from the top down. It’s a process of removing layers, working with textures, and finding the balance between light and shadow.” — Maxime

We’re excited to share more about Lawrence’s work and his thoughtful approach to life in our Journal very soon.

We invited mothers who came as artists in residence at The Parcelles to share how they experience being both a mother and an artist. How does motherhood shape creativity, influence intention after matrescence, and transform the work itself?

Their reflections are thoughtful and worth sharing — a way to honour motherhood in all that it holds, not only on Mother’s Day, but in everyday life.

🌷🌷🌷
