This is a a great piece of advice.

Daniel stayed consistent all day, pairing salted minnows with a silver and black Hecla Hammer — and the pattern paid off.

When fishing Hecla, it’s incredibly important to explore points, humps, transitions, and sharp drop offs. These areas act like underwater highways for Greenbacks. Walleye will often stage along depth changes where shallow feeding flats quickly break into deeper water. It gives them the ability to move up and feed, then slide back down into deeper water with current, baitfish, and changing light conditions.

Transitions are key because they concentrate fish. Gravel to mud, rocks to sand, or sudden depth breaks can all create natural holding areas where baitfish stack up — and the walleye are never far behind. Add heavy current into the mix and those drop offs become prime ambush points for aggressive fish.

In this case, we pulled up on a point and anchored right on the edge of a drop off. Prime time for Greenbacks. The current was moving, fish were sliding around the structure, and the Hecla Hammer got the job done once again.

Sometimes the difference maker isn’t moving spots every 5 minutes… it’s understanding how walleye relate to structure and staying confident in the pattern.
