Mountain View Conference Center is nestled among cedars, firs, hemlock, and maples and is surrounded by towering mountains with the lush Fraser River Valley below. Serving the British Columbia churches, our North American Division counterparts, and the public is our joy. The Conference Center has 72 guest rooms with private baths, a dining room seating 250 people, an auditorium seating 400 people and a variety of meeting rooms. Cabins, bunkhouses, 900 camping and RV sites and recreational facilities are available. At the Mountain View Summer Camp and Retreat Center there are 17 heated cabins that accommodate 130 people. The modern dining hall/kitchen can serve up to 200 people on the upper level. Another smaller assembly area and kitchen located downstairs can service 40 people. There is a campfire bowl located at the base of a 75' rock face that seats 300 people. Other facilities include an indoor/outdoor gymnasium, center, ski boats, canoes, and a craft building. Skiing, hot springs, swimming, sightseeing and hiking are close by. Mountain View Summer Camp offers a wide range of activities for young people and families in a residential summer camp setting. The camp offers horseback riding, water skiing/wake boarding, canoeing, rock climbing, swimming, wilderness living, nature study, crafts, videography, sports and archery. All of these activities are used as a tool to share Jesus with each camper. During the spring and fall, the camp is available to other groups for retreats and conferences. After a very thoughtful referral (thank you TC), due the the recent post about the windstorm damage at the camp, nearly two weeks ago, a cycle of communication started with phone calls, connections and conversations. Then this past Thursday we were able to host nine members of the volunteer organization, Team Rubicon. Who are they? You can read about them by following the link below, but predominantly they are ex military veterans that volunteer their time and skills for emergency service, such as cleaning up after storms. Some of their team spent close to three months helping clean up Lytton after their devastating fire back in June, 2021.

The weather cooperated FABULOUSLY!! It was perfect.

Following safety protocols carefully, they helped our Maintenance Guys clean up branches and brush mess, and cut up and clear fallen trees. Arriving at 8, they got their equipment out and set up. They had a safety meeting and together we distributed their teams out to the worst affected areas, which were J Hill, Youth Hill, near the pool behind the GAP, and in the lower part of B section, east of the Bunk houses. They also cut up a log in front of the lodge and near the southeast corner of the big auditorium.
One of their members drove in from Comox, and another (and his son) drove down from Kelowna. We were able to share a tasty lunch with them. Youth Directors Tony and David were on hand to help us as well. One tree had come down on a cabin in the Boy's section and damaged the roof.

This past Wednesday night we had a windstorm in the Fraser Valley. Unfortunately Camp Hope was not immune to these strong winds, and they did their fair share (or perhaps unfair share) of damage.

The power in the area was knocked out Wednesday night. Then the trees and large portions of trees started coming down. The main power line coming into camp, down our easement road was heavily damaged rendering it unuseable.

Some trees on campus grow up and the trunk splits into two sections. It seems these were the must susceptible to breaking and coming down. Trees or large portions of trees came down on the lines right behind (on the north side) of the bathroom on J Hill.
A tree came down and broke a power pole in the horse corral very near the new hay barn. And a big tree right behind the GAP broke and came down onto lines towards the Youth Hill road up.

There were numerous other place around the camp as well. Another cedar tree in the non powered section of J Hill. One down in front of the lodge. There were a few trees down in the driveway and the backhoe was needed before anyone could leave the camp.

A big tree came down behind the Maintenance shop with just the top of it coming down into our working space. Another came down near the Wills and Trusts offices on the SW corner of the big auditorium, with the very tree top tip knocking the sign off the wall.

The POWER

The power went dead Wednesday night. A significant amount of time was utilized on the phone speaking with electricians and electrical companies with trucks that dealt with high voltage lines and such. Of course all these companies are uber busy after a big blow.

Thursday night around 7 pm we finally got our main power line repaired by our regular company. They fixed the blown transformer during this past camp meeting. TruLine Power. We started our old, aged generator, that powers the lodge, around 8 pm. It ONLY powers the lodge.

Another company came and assessed the other three places where lines were damaged. They then came back Friday, but the corral area was too muddy, so those repairs will be ongoing next week.

The old aged generator ate up its fan belts Friday afternoon and stopped. This did not bode well as we had a dinner to make for the group that is there this weekend. Pressure. Stress! The estimated time that BC Hydro would have the power back on kept changing. Their crews were busy in many locations.

Anson T our main mechanic started working on the generator, identifying the shredded fan belts, so more could be acquired. Unfortunately the belts needed were not available in Hope, so that is still down. We have since located replacements.

Fortunately the power came back on Friday evening around 6:00 pm, much to the very very very great relief of staff and guests. It was off nearly 48 hours. There were many trees down on the power lines along Highway 7. One of the pictures I have posted is from just down the road on Hwy 7.

There will be lots of clean up in the days ahead. This isn't nearly as bad as the Ice storm of 2015, but it did bring back memories (not so precious). The pictures are not in any real order.

Perhaps there are those who would like to get some fresh air next week. Perhaps some would like the clean, fresh air of our camp. Perhaps there are some that like raking, and handling branches and rounds of wood, and picking up sticks. We could use a hand again.

No real major damage, not like 2015. Some of our fences took a few hits and got flattened. We will likely find a number of other things for repair. This will be the reality of the days going forwards.

We are grateful there were no injuries or close calls. We are going to renew our generator shopping efforts.

UPDATE RE: We Need Your Help.
I was able to contact the previous owner, who had it registered in their name. They sold it 4 or 5 years ago. The new owner had a tow company tow it away. They never transferred insurance or title, nor registered it in their name.

There is a name inside the trailer, just a first name though...Dominique...???

It is full of someone's belongings, as in they are moving, as everything is boxed up and labeled quite nicely. But it will all likely end up at the dump in the coming days.

We Need Your Help.

We need help to identify who this trailer belongs to.

On New Year's Eve, someone towed this trailer into the camp and parked it in our storage area. Our couple still here from the Lytton fire saw it being towed in, but no one else did.
They thought it was a tow company from Hope that brought it in, but we have contacted them both, and neither of them have records of it being them.

We do not know who it belongs to. No agreement document was signed and no storage fees are being paid. It is locked tight. The shades are all down. It has been abandoned on the camp.

We do have the VIN.

I have sent an email to an RCMP contact to find out proper protocol on how to deal with it. By outward appearances, it does not appear to be well taken care of. Can't really get a good look inside.

Could it be beautiful inside and this is an amazing gift?

Please help us solve the appearance of the 5th wheel.

This week I was asked to feed the horses. I am not a horsey guy. Even though many years ago in my younger days, we kept two of the camp horses for the winter on a neighboring property. They were Shadow and King. I learned to ride ba****ck quite well at that time.
Though a stranger to them, they all appreciated me because I was the Door Dash Meals on Wheels guy. The hay in the back of the Gator must have been tastier.

If anyone would like to help the support the summer camp horse program(they eat alot), contact Pastor Tony Cortez.

Camp Meeting 2026.
I often get asked if we have any trailers to rent. We don't.
I occasionally get asked if I know of any trailers available to be rented. I usually don't.

I do have a connection with a very nice someone who works at Fraserway RV. They often get asked those same questions personally. In response to those questions, they have come up with a special offer for camp meeting attendees that are still looking to rent an RV.

Disclaimer. This offer in no way involves Camp Hope. We will not receive any remuneration or funds from potential rentals. Posting this here is purely for informational purposes, to possibly help anyone who is looking for a rental. Camp Meeting 2026 will be amazing. You will not want to miss it!

Please follow the instructions as posted in the ad.

January 2015 Ice Storm Remembered. Part 1

Being at the camp all week with our pastors at the 'worker's meetings', a memory popped up on FB about the ice storm we had back in January 2015. I know, I often reference it. I cannot help it due to the magnitude of mess and destruction and the magnitude of the effort to clean it up.

I will be forever grateful for all those who came and helped with the clean up, that so many days felt overwhelming. But with the help of many kind and time generous people we worked through it.

I have just spent considerable time going through my immense photo files for January. I tried to copy enough pictures so you can get a pretty good overview of all that happened in January 2015. There are a lot of pics and plenty of videos. I hope they will all load and post.

11 years ago this is what we did ALL January, February, March and into April.

Here is an overview of January, 11 years ago.

In early January of 2015, after 2-3 days of the frozen rain-ice storm, the clouds parted and the sun came out. Though there was much destruction and damage, over $650,000 worth (we were blessed to have insurance), there was beauty when the sun came out refracting, glittering and shining through all the ice.

This morning the sun re-appeared briefly at the camp, after a number of days of pretty intense rain and flooding. While the neighboring cornfield is a new stream bed (and will be until some mountainside land-reshaping takes place), and we have a small river running over our road in from the highway, the beauty of the sun shining through after inclement weather never fails to warm the heart and encourage the soul.

Thank you to Cynthia Hamilton for taking these pictures at the camp this morning, and sharing them so they can be shared here for you.

Which one or ones do you like best?

In February 0f 2007 the creek that is called Return Creek or Cholequwe (Sp) Creek, that runs through the field to the west of the camp, and is what feeds the falls at the end of the Falls Trail, it overflowed.

There was a large debris jam up on the hill and the water flooded over its banks and ran into the camp. The pump house in G Section caused the water to divide and go around the lodge. That saved a lot of damage. Early camp pioneer Wally Ganz eventually got some heavy equipment up into the woods and was able to clear the jam and allowing the water back into its stream bed.

However, in the meanwhile, tons and tons of sand and debris was deposited on the camp, both behind the lodge and in the big field in front. Much of the sand was scraped off and trucked onto and spread over our access road to the west of the gate.

Fast forward to January 2026. We are experiencing again what is recently called “Atmospheric Rivers”! Lots and lots of heavy rain over the weekend and Monday, and that same creek has gotten a another debris dam, causing the heavily swollen creek to leave its stream bed, and flow over its banks causing some significant flooding.

BUT...this time is different!!

This time the jam is located such that the water is not coming down into the camp, thankfully, mercifully. It is instead flowing through the woods and down into the neighbors cornfield that is just to the west of the camp.

In the videos you can get an idea of what is happening. My guess is that this kind of flooding happened every so often for 100s of years. Kind of a cyclical thing as the ground the camp is on is very sandy, silty, light gravelly. This goes way way down as when we drilled our second well this same pattern goes down to 200 feet or more.

Currently it is NOT flowing onto the camp. It is not causing damage to any structures anywhere. The swollen creek could be washing away topsoil, but it will also be depositing soil and sand as well.

From my perspective, the topography of the land is such that the flooding should not hit us this year unless a new debris jam happens above the current one.

Also included is a video of the creek that runs through the camp beside the lodge.

After Tuesday we have 5 days of sun in the forecast. We will need it to dry out.

As 2025 comes to an end, we would like to wish all friends of Camp Hope a Blessed and Merry Christmas.

We would like to thank everyone who kept our staff and camp in their prayers. We would like to thank those who have taken time to come and volunteer on our behalf, sharing some part of our work load. We would like to thank those who have worked at the camp on a contractor like basis, and lastly, but certainly not least, we wish to share our heartfelt gratitude for those who have given us financial support this past year.

Camp Hope is large. There are so many buildings, systems - both above and below ground, many vehicles, pieces of major equipment and more. Age, weather and wear all take their toll.

We could not do what we do without your help.

If you are still looking to bump up your charitable donations for 2025, heres are a few projects that we have on our radar for 2026 and are hoping to possibly tackle.

Remediation of leaks in the roof of the main lodge. We have had two roofing contracting companies come and look so far. We are awaiting their proposals.

New mattresses for many of the lodge guest rooms. Queens and Doubles.

Freshen up the 30 Bunkhouse rooms. Potentially more lighting, a ceiling fan, paint and new flooring.

Security camera upgrades.

Update and freshen the main public bathrooms in the lodge.

Replace the lodge kitchen floor.

Finally find and purchase the RIGHT Generator for the lodge. It has been a long, rigorous search.

Youth Camp

Major upgrades to the swimming pool mechanical and building.

Donations that are made will have charitable status, get receipted and can be used as deductions on your annual taxes. Deadline for 2025 receipts will be midnight, December 31.

They will have to donated/turned in by that time, or postmarked by December 31 at the latest.

Thank you again for all previous support and current consideration.
