Monica Loney is a Métis visual artist based in Barrie, Ontario, recognized for her distinctive
continuous-line practice and public art across Simcoe County. Her work blends technical precision with community storytelling, creating pieces that invite reflection, connection, and dialogue.

Rooted in the philosophy of interconnectedness, Monica encourages viewers to slow down,
follow the line, and engage in a meditative process of seeing and feeling.

In 2022, Monica received the City of Barrie’s Emerging Artist Award in recognition of her commitment to accessible and inclusive art. She continues to expand her impact through community-driven projects and public installations that bring art into shared spaces. In 2024, she was awarded an Ontario Community Changemakers Grant from 880 Cities, supporting
her advocacy initiative, The Transformative Power of Public Art, which highlights the social, cultural, and emotional benefits of art in public spaces. Monica currently has her piece titled ‘Wild Calling’ on display at the Legislative Assembly of Ontario’s Gathering Place exhibit, focusing on Indigenous creators.

Through her practice, Monica aims to create meaningful visual experiences that not only beautify environments but also strengthen community bonds and inspire a deeper sense of belonging.

“Community is the heart of a city, and art plays a role in connecting us all.”

A new gallery is opening at White Pine Lodge Algonquin. White Pine Gallery has a mission to primarily support and uplift Indigenous artists. We are currently seeking creators who would like to have their work featured in this exciting new space. Dwight is a small town located 15 minutes from the West gate of Algonquin Provincial Park, the traditional territory of the Algonquin Anishnaabeg people. One million+ people visit Algonquin via Highway 60 every year and we aim to bring forth recognition of the original people of the land, amplify voices, culture and the creative expression of Indigenous artists from all Nations.

We welcome all mediums, including prints, textiles, paintings, soapstone carvings, beadwork, moccasins, and more. This is an opportunity to showcase your work in a gallery dedicated to celebrating Indigenous artistry and culture.

Participating artists will also have access to unique opportunities such as meet-and-greets and workshops, with lodging available at reduced rates or included as part of these events.

If you’re interested, please reach out at: [email protected]

If you have something else to offer such as speaking events, music, knowledge sharing, culinary arts we still want to hear from you! We are open to any and every idea!

Spring at White Pine Lodge Algonquin

Photos by:

This is one of the best opportunities of the year to see wildlife in Algonquin Provincial Park and the surrounding area (we are located 15 minutes from the West gate!)
Here’s why:
1. The vegetation is sparse=better visibility for you
2. The animals are more active after winter, they are feeding and moving around which increases your chances of seeing them
3. Moose are attracted to road salt-after a long winter of being sodium deficient the moose are often along the roadside licking the salt or feeding on nearby vegetation
4. There are fewer visitors this time of year, fewer disturbances are better for the animals and you
5. The cooler temperatures are more comfortable for large mammals who in the summer months are often in shaded and more remote areas
If you are planning a visit stay with us to be close to the action and take a walk on our property or take the short drive into the park in early morning or at dusk for the best viewing opportunities
