Saying goodbye is hard.

It is even harder when it's said to someone you care about, someone who you don't want to leave...

Harder still when you know you won't see them, again, for a long time...in this case, close to a year.

When you love what you do...and love with whom and for whom you do it and get to share it...
Then what makes goodbyes hardest of all is when all of the above is true AND you are saying it to your final group of campers for the summer...knowing no more will come now for 10 months.

To our dear 3rd Session campers: thank you for choosing to spend the last part of your summer vacation with us at Tawingo...and for making it so hard to say "goodbye" to you this past Monday. The only consolation for us - other than having had the good fortune of spending two incredible weeks with you in the first place, is knowing we'll get to do it all again in 2027.

There are, admittedly, a few times when we wish parents could have a peek into the things their campers do and say while they are here.

Banquet is one of those things.
To bear witness to:
the beautiful words of a grace spoken by a 2026 TLC;
the standing ovation that the campers and staff spontaneously lavish upon our dear and very talented Kitchen team.
the emotionally stirring words of our two first-year and two veteran campers as they give what we call, "memory" speeches.
the singing that rings from the rafters of Alouettsky and the Banquet Sing Song.
the tears shed as campers linger before heading to their final campfire.
Every bit of the Banquet Program is touched by a smidge of magic...the magic of moments that become the memories of Camp.

And so parents (and others!), here is a wee peek into our 3rd and final Banquet of the Summer.

Everything is AWESOME!

So began (and ended) Tawingo's 3rd Session Musical: The Lego Musical!

And it was AWESOME.
Brick by brick, block by block, scene by scene, the show was super fun, funny, and fantastically performed...something we didn't want to "Lego" of when the curtain finally fell!

Congratulations to the cast and crew who proved that each of us is special and capable of so much more than we may know...

Grabbing a ball, tossing a ball, catching a ball and ultimately, having a BALL, the entirety of Lakeside participated in the 2nd Annual "Lakeside Bowl" last evening - under the Thursday Night Lights of the Sportsfield!

The "Lakeside Bowl":
The Game: a mix of Handball and "Sticks"
The Teams: even cabins = the Cliffside Ravens ; odd cabins = the Vernon Whitecaps
Other roles:
Commentators - play-by-play and colour commentary and player interviews
Scouts - roamed the field with clipboards offering players a "signing bonus" of 5 sticks
Turf Monsters - roamed the field tagging players and having them complete a physio task before resuming play (e.g., stretching)
Referees - blew whistles and threw yellow flags for any fun infraction
'Water Boys' - squirted water into the mouths of thirsty players!
Once the final whistle blew, touchdowns were tabulated, sticks were counted, a victor was crowned, arctic boys of water were dumped on coaches, handshakes happened, and bottles of gingerale were shaken (not stirred) and sprayed in celebration of great game play and sportsmanship!

The post-game Lakeside poll showed the Bowl, on the whole, surpassed every goal and was good for the soul!

🎶"Mud, mud, glorious mud;
Nothing quite like it for cooling the blood..."🎵

And for making for a mud-tastic day of memories for Pine Ridge...memories that will really 'stick'!

To prove they were worthy of being chosen as the next contestants on SURVIVOR, Pine Ridge campers chugged through the mud of several challenges (Tug-O-War, Creek Crawl, Duck Pond Trudge, Mud Sticks, Camouflage, and more) besting each one, of course!

Yes, it was a flood of mud, a day of clay, with no way to skirt the dirt! And Pine Ridge campers LOVED every thick, slick, stick of it!

"I'm seeing RED!"
"Yeah, well I feel BLUE!"

On Saturday afternoon, a battle for the ages raged from the waters of the Tawingo Triangle to the tops of the Tawingo Terraces and the far reaches and beaches of Lakeside. More specifically, the Red Room and Blue Room battled it out, once and for all, for Lower Lodge supremacy in an all out, way-out, All Camp Game of Land/Water "Capture the Flag"!

The only "room" left was room for tons of fun!

Bah, Bah, Bah;
Bah, Bah, Bee Que!

Hotdog, hotdog, hotdiggity dog!

Whether on the Terraces, on a blanket, enjoying freshly grilled burgers; or around the Circle fire, on benches, enjoying flamed-cooked hotdogs: eating outside, with friends, is something we all 'relish!"(Sorry if that pun didn't cut the "mustard" or make you "roll" with laughter! Let's "ketch-up" next time for a few more!)

Giving campers the freedom choose: what to do, where to do it, with whom to do it (cabin-mates, circle-mates, siblings, friends, counsellors, ReCons and/or TLCs)...from sports and sports tournaments, to crafts and woodcrafts, to music and theatre, to swimming, sailing, kayaking, and canoeing, to board games and reading and tournaments in the library, to searching for the D'Juno, to walking the goats (that's "Baaaa" goats not G.O.A.T.s - though our campers are G.O.A.T.s!) to special cabin activities (like the clay pits or krispie clusters) or engaging in one of the many "Daily Delights" ("It's going to be 'D' - wait for it - 'LIGHTFUL'). It's called Free Time. A Tawingo tradition for 65 years. And our campers LOVE IT!

One of the most significant things about 3rd Session is that each "slice" of Camp life, each program, each moment is a first for our campers (for this summer), and at the same time, the last of the summer for our staff...which makes each of those slices, programs, and moments super special for us both!

Sunday was the last first day of the summer. And what a GREAT day it was: Sun; fun; subs; Tawingo cookies, singing; swimming; pasta, 'worms and dirt', and campfires for all!

1st Session is special because we get to welcome our very first campers of the summer.
3rd is special because we get to welcome our very last campers of the summer.

And so what about 2nd? What makes it special?
Well now, that's an easy one...it's the longest, which means 2nd Session campers are the ones who, in many ways, we get to know the best, having been in our "home" and lives for a full three weeks...and this makes saying, "Goodbye" to them especially hard...just as it is anytime one says, "Goodbye" to an old friend.

To our 2nd Session campers: THANK you! Thank YOU for choosing to spend such a large slice of your summer vacation with us. Your appetite and love for every part of Camp - from the smallest bit to the enormity of the Ray Marinko Relay (and everything in between)—is insatiable, and we are so grateful to you for that...and so much more.

Until next summer...
Please keep us in mind. We promise to do the same.
