For this week's , we're heading over to the Gatehouse to meet two of the familiar faces you'll see at Sandbar Lake, Kendra and Marshall!

As Gate Attendants, they help set the tone for visitor's experiences from the moment they arrive. Whether it's answering questions, helping campers get settled, sharing park tips, or simply having a friendly conversation, they're there to make sure every visitor feels welcome. The Gatehouse can be a busy place, but it's also where plenty of conversations, stories, and first impressions begin!

As of early this morning (August 20), the fire ban to reduce the risk of human-caused fires during a period of high fire danger has officially been lifted.

Campfires and the burning of solid fuels (e.g. charcoal, wood, etc.) are once again permitted in the park.

While fires are allowed, please continue to practice safe campfire habits:
✅ Keep fires in designated fire pits only
✅ Never leave a fire unattended
✅ Keep your fire small and manageable (with a water bucket ready)
✅ Fully extinguish your fire before leaving or turning in for the night

Reminder: Start the fire no earlier than 2 hours before sunset and put it out no later than 2 hours after sunrise the next day.

Let's all do our part to keep the park safe and enjoyable for everyone. Happy camping! 🏕️

This , we're introducing some of the hardworking faces behind the scenes at Sandbar Lake Provincial Park! 🌲🔨

Meet Austin, Jared, Brady, and Tirth, members of our Maintenance Team who help keep the park looking its best for visitors and wildlife alike. From maintaining campsites and trails to tackling special projects around the park, their work helps make every visit to Sandbar Lake a great one.

🎣 Sandbar Lake turns fishing on easy mode!
🚻 Toilet paper belongs in the toilets, not on the floor.
🗑️ Leave your campsite looking better than you found it, and please don't put garbage in your fire pit!

Whether they're cleaning campsites, improving trails, installing docks, or helping keep our beach beautiful, we're grateful for everything they do.

🐻 We're in bear country at Sandbar Lake Provincial Park! 🏕️

Help keep both people and bears safe by being Bear Wise during your visit.

Bears have an incredible sense of smell and can be attracted to:
🍕 Food and food wrappers
🗑️ Garbage and recycling
🍳 Cooking equipment and lingering food odours (even used paper towel!)
🐕 Pet food and bird seed
🫐 Ripe fruit and other scented items
🧴 Scented non-food items such as toothpaste, deodorant, soap, sunscreen, dishware, and even gasoline!

✅ When you're not actively using them, store all wildlife attractants securely in the trunk of your vehicle with the windows closed.

Keeping food and scented items out of sight and out of smell helps prevent bears from visiting campsites and protects bears from becoming food-conditioned.

👀 See a bear in the park? Please let park staff know as soon as possible.

For us at sandbar, we love the sounds of all the beautiful animals we live alongside.

Being mindful allows you be absolutely in the moment, and enjoy the wonderful planet we call home.

Did someone say ?

Meet Emma, our amazing Maintenance Lead! Dedicated, hardworking, and always ready with a good sense of humor, Emma truly loves being out in the park. With four seasons working in Ontario Parks under her belt, she has learned plenty along the way and is always eager to learn something new, whether it's using a new piece of equipment or discovering something on the trails.

When she's not busy helping keep the park running smoothly, you can probably find her exploring the trails and enjoying the place she works so hard to care for.

🔥 Pro tip: Fire pits are for fires, not garbage! Please pack out your waste and help keep the park clean. When you're away from your campsite, store your coolers in your vehicle to help prevent attracting wildlife.

What if the oldest storyteller in the park isn't a person... it's a rock?

🪨 The bedrock geology of Sandbar Lake consists of ancient Archean rock, formed 2.5 to 3.4 billion years ago. These rocks are made of solid granite with beautiful gneissic banding. The light and dark stripes you can see are layers of minerals that were transformed by immense heat and pressure deep within the Earth.

⌛ Much later, as glaciers from the last Ice Age retreated, they left behind sand and gravel that helped shape the rolling landscape and the beautiful sandy beach at Sandbar Lake.

🔍 Next time you're on the trail, take a closer look. The rocks beneath your feet have a story billions of years in the making.
