Have you ever planned to hike the Skyline Trail, only to find it temporarily closed due to overcapacity? 😔

During peak periods, both the trail and parking lot can reach capacity. Beginning this summer, a timed parking reservation system will be introduced to help manage busy periods, reduce congestion, and protect the trail and surrounding ecosystems. 📅🚗🌳🥾

LARGE CROWDS ON SKYLINE TRAIL FORCE RESERVATION REQUIREMENTS — Parks Canada is introducing a reservation system for the popular Skyline Trail in Cape Breton Highlands National Park. Crowds driven by social media have overwhelmed parking—even after expansion—and visitors are stepping off boardwalks to get around congestion, damaging sensitive endangered plants. Parking reservations with timed access launches in late June. If you're looking to get that selfie with a moose (from a safe distance), look for more information in early 2026.
