Update on The Notch:
There is still snow on the Notch, but the hiking trail goes to the right, above the cornice. There are only 3 patches of snow remaining along the trail between Curator lake and the top of the Notch. Each snow patch is less than 30 ft long. We reccomend hiking poles if you have them as the trail is on a slope so poles help for balance but other than that, you will have no issues traversing the Notch 🙂 We have had many guests complete the entirety of the Skyline trail in the last week, and there is not much snow after the Notch either so should be smooth sailing and the warm weather coming up will only help!

Submitting trail reports helps the Park update their trail conditions more accurately and frequently which will hopefully ease the worries of incoming hikers and guests.

Snow is melting 😊
Hikers have reported easy trails over the past couple of days. The trail through the snowy sections is packed down and mostly melted. The creeks are high so your feet may still get wet but that’s not so bad with the gorgeous weather we are having today and is supposed to continue throughout the week.

Skyline Trail Report -
Yes, there is still snow. Patches of snow linger throughout the whole Skyline Trail. From Maligne Lake to Little Shovel Pass is snow free with patches of snow continuing from then on. The Notch and beyond is still snow covered, with the snowy sections easing as you make your way towards Signal Mountain.

There have been multiple groups (upwards of 40 people) make the trek over the last week, there is a defined trail to follow through snowy sections and every day as the weather gets warmer and more people hit the trail, the conditions improve.

Plan on it taking more time than you may think and everything will be just fine.

Trail Report: Maligne Lake -> Shovel Pass Lodge
The trail is dry from Maligne Lake to Little Shovel Pass, then there is still lots of snow patches from there to SPL. There are footprints to follow but slow going due to the wet conditions.

Plan to give yourselves more time than you think is needed to get to the Lodge, we’ll have the fire rolling to dry your stuff out when you get here 🙂
