June 1 was historically known as Trap Berth Day.

Markers for cod trap fishing berths were dropped on this day at 12 PM each year, signalling the start of the inshore fishing season.

More recently, we mark this day by gathering at the Punt Premises, a traditional fishing premises that celebrates the inshore fishery, with our community and guests, for music, snacks, and a traditional gun salute at noon.

Lobster season.

Our guests experience meals shaped by the season. These days you'll find seafood harvested from the waters around the island by local fishers and processed by the Fogo Island Co-op FICSL.

13 years of Fogo Island Inn.

Today, we celebrated with our team members and guests, gathering in our Lobby to share memories and stories over cupcakes and champagne.

What began as an idea to create another leg on Fogo Island’s economy and meaningful work rooted in place has grown and evolved over time. The Inn, alongside our parent charity , continues to be a part of a broader effort: to build an economy grounded in the knowledge of this island and to carry our learnings into the world through the work of the Shorefast Institute for Place-Based Economies.

Join us in The Shed.

On Fogo Island, sheds are where we gather, entertain, share a meal and socialize. Inspired by that spirit, The Shed at Fogo Island Inn invites you to a laid-back dining experience, where our team members and guests share stories and taste Fogo Island seafood prepared in traditional and contemporary ways.

It’s an evening that reflects our past and present, with our traditional foodways at the heart of it all.

With craggy rock faces, dramatic seascapes, and barren hillsides, the landscapes of Fogo Island are meant to be known and explored.

Join us for iceberg season.

Hundreds of icebergs are already being reported off the coastlines of Newfoundland and Labrador, and a few smaller bergs are visible from our perch along Iceberg Alley.

From now until late June, we'll be spending days spent on the water with guests, marvelling at these natural wonders and, of course, gathering ice chunks to enjoy in cocktails in our lounge.

Share your travel experiences.

As a community-centred social business and an initiative of Shorefast, the Inn crafts every stay around care for the nature and culture of Fogo Island. It’s this commitment to place that, we hope, becomes a sense of belonging.

If Fogo Island Inn has meant something to you, as a guest or friend of this place, we invite you to vote in this year’s Condé Nast Traveller Readers' Choice Awards. By sharing our story on a global stage, we shine a light on Fogo Island, the work of Shorefast, and a different approach to travel with a purpose.
