For a city that supposedly has nothing to do, Kamloops keeps giving me reasons to come back.
I was hosted for two nights by Best Western Premiere Aberdeen, and I fully recommend staying here. My room was comfortable, the decor was lovely, and I enjoyed having somewhere to relax and check out the pool and hot tub after being out for the day.
Did you know you can bring your best friend along? 🐾 The hotel welcomes up to two dogs per designated pet-friendly room. These rooms are limited and a pet fee applies, so arrange that when booking.
I was also hosted by Heaven Sushi Sake Bar, where I enjoyed a delicious dinner and breakfast. The restaurant was busy with people coming in for celebrations, and I loved having a meal to look forward to right downstairs.
Having breakfast there also made getting onto the highway towards McAbee Fossil Beds and home much easier.
For the day you see in this reel, I took a private tour at the Secwépemc Museum & Heritage Park, picked up road-trip essentials at Sweláps Market in Chief Louis Crossing, and walked along the waterfront at Pioneer Park. Buying things you already need is such an easy way to support Indigenous-owned businesses.
For more ideas to round out a two-night stay:
• Head to the viewpoint at Thompson Rivers University for views across the city and river valley.
• Stop at Brynn’s Bakery downtown. I always recommend their vegan-friendly treats, and even their drip coffee is delicious.
• Visit the Kamloops Art Gallery to see what’s on exhibition.
• Spend some time at the Kamloops Museum and Archives for more local history.
• Have brunch at Amsterdam Restaurant and leave yourself time for a walk downtown.
Save this for your next Kamloops stay, and give yourself time to enjoy the hotel too.
