Celebrate 40 years of Crocodile Dundee with a new self-guided tour - Kakadu. Visit Kakadu National Park in 2026 and follow in the footsteps of Mick Dundee, who put the park on the international tourism map 40 years ago when it premiered in Sydney on April 30, 1986.

The self-guided tour leads visitors to film locations including Nourlangie (Burrungkuy) and the nearby Anbangbang Billabong, Ubirr, and Gunlom Falls, best known for the scene where Mick spears a fish before swimming in the cooling pool.

For Kakadu, a fledgling tourism industry was supercharged overnight, with the now legendary Crocodile Hotel being built as a result of the new interest in the destination. Developed by the local Indigenous Gagudju people, the Crocodile Hotel highlighted the power of the ‘crocodile’ in marketing the region, with nearby Yellow Water Billabong established as one of the most popular locations for cruises so that visitors could catch sight of ‘salties’ in their natural habitat. Yellow Water starred in the croc-horror film Rogue three decades later.

Kakadu National Park is one of Australia’s most spectacular landscapes year-round, but during the wet season—particularly Kudjewk (January to March)—conditions can change quickly. Heavy monsoonal rains bring life to the floodplains, waterfalls thunder into action, and the landscape transforms. However, these same rains can also cause flooding and temporary road closures, making it essential for travellers to check access conditions before visiting.
