🍂 Mark your calendars for next Saturday — Harvest Fest is happening October 17 at Founders' Food Hall & Market in Charlottetown! From 11am to 8pm it's a full day of fall family fun: local vendors, delicious eats, and it's free to attend.

I love days like this — wandering the stalls, filling up on local goodies, then heading back to the cottage as the evening cools off. Crisp air, autumn colours, and a quiet night under a starry Island sky. ✨

🎃 Here is a Saturday idea I love: this Saturday, October 10, Kool Breeze Farms in Summerside is hosting the 33rd Annual PEI Giant Pumpkin & Squash Weigh-Off! It is free to attend from 10am to 2pm — with a BBQ, the fry truck, wagon rides, kids activities, and a corn maze to explore. 🍂

Nothing beats a crisp fall day out and about, then heading back to the cottage for a quiet evening while the leaves drift down.

Would you be cheering for the giant pumpkin or the giant squash? 😄

🎃 October is getting spooky in Kensington! The Haunted Mansion Halloween Nights of Fear opens later this month — Oct 16–18, 22–25 & 28–30 at 81 Victoria Street West. 👻 It is PEI's largest haunted house, and it's only a short drive from our cottages here in Long River.

I have always loved a good scare in the fall — and there is something pretty wonderful about coming home afterwards to a quiet cottage evening, leaves drifting down and the air all crisp. 🍂

🍂 October on the Island means one of my favourite things — the Charlottetown Scarecrow Festival! All month long, downtown Charlottetown is filled with the cleverest, silliest scarecrow displays. Take the self-guided tour, hop on a spooky ghost walk 👻, and enjoy the harvest markets and live music.

It's the perfect fall day trip — and there's nothing like coming back to the cottage afterwards, with the leaves turning and a quiet evening in Long River.

Took a drive out west today 🚗 Started at North Cape to watch the colliding tides at low tide, then wandered through Tignish to see the old church and the inn. Wrapped it all up with lunch at the potato museum.

🌊 A Perfect Day Trip in Eastern PEI

Looking for a great day trip while staying with us?

Here’s an itinerary we recently enjoyed! ❤️

Our journey started with a quick bite to eat at Receiver Coffee Company in Cavendish, then we continued along the scenic coastal drive toward Greenwich National Park.

🥾 The hike to Greenwich Beach is about 30 minutes, and part of the trail takes you across the famous floating boardwalk over the wetlands. It leads to one of PEI’s most beautiful white-sand beaches — definitely worth the walk!

🍽️ After working up an appetite, we headed to Morrell for lunch at the Seafood Shack, where we had a fantastic meal.

🌅 We finished the day at the St. Peter’s Harbour Lighthouse, taking in the beautiful coastal scenery and enjoying the peaceful atmosphere.

Eastern PEI has so much to see and do — beautiful beaches, scenic drives, hiking trails, great food, lighthouses and plenty of hidden gems.
