We always enjoy looking at Yellow Lake when we drive to Penticton and admiring the birds, fishermen, canoeists and very (very!) brave swimmers.
I’ve often wondered what its far shores look like but never quite got around to launching a canoe in it to actually explore.
Well, Mother Nature opened up her marvels to us in another way this year! Yellow Lake has frozen like glass and we’ve been able to skate to the raft in the middle, explore the rock caves along the far side, ogle at the pair of Bald Eagles and their ice prints, visit with the ice fishermen and we even spotted some koi. I’m sure they’re invasive but it was exciting to see their orange bodies gliding under the ice so calmly.
Just in case you can’t make it out on your own, here are some highlights from our adventures!

❄️🌚 Winter solstice 🌚❄️
We’ve been inching along, ever so slowly, towards this longest night and shortest day. And now we are here! I hope you have some Christmas lights shining bright to cheer up the night. I also hope you make the most of the darkness, the shadows and the stillness.
