Here's a fun fact for about the popular spelling game Boggle.

In order to help avoid some more vulgar players from having fun writing curses, the game includes 2 F's and 1 K - but the catch is that they are all on the same die!

Another thing is that the letter Q can be especially difficult, so the game has one side of one of the dice contain the 2 letters, 'Qu', together so that you don't have to rely on chance to make the Q more useful.

Well that's it - there's some mind-boggling trivia for your Thursday evening!

Friday Feature No. 66 🖊📷

Welcome to the curious world of Quelf. In this game, you simply roll a die each turn and move forward that number of spaces. First to the finish line wins. Sound easy? There is a couple catches...

First, each space you land on means there is a different card to be read and resulting action, trivia, stunt, and more events to complete. Each card has different rules on how the results of the event will impact the pieces on the board.

Second, the wacky character you pick may change the way you are affected by a card. Sometimes it helps, sometimes it hinders.

Third, there is one last challenge. On the last space, you must successfully survive a final, harder, Scatterbrainz question to win the game.

So grab a group of friends, and game in the world of Quelf at your next board game night!

It's a fun little piece of to know the origin of memorable words and phrases. One that comes to mind is the phrase "Back to square one".

What's neat about this phrase is that the origin is fairly recent for the history of words. In the late 19th century, there were multiple versions of the game we know today as Snakes & Ladders (or Chutes & Ladders). In many versions, you could make it almost all the way to the end of the game and hit a snake that would slide you all the way back to the start - or to square one. Hence, the origin of the phrase!

It's pretty cool how relevant games are in our day-to-day lives and how well-known some games, like Snakes & Ladders, can be to make us use a phrase that refers back to a childhood classic of the gaming community when we get flustered on a project at work as adults.

For we look at the game that leads all other trivia games - Trivial Pursuit! For such a popular game for many generations, it is amazing the game isn't even 50 years old yet. It was designed right here in Canada in Montreal, Quebec in 1979 and released just 2 years later in 1981.

Since then, though, a pretty cool fact is that it has inspired, not one, not two, but three different games shows of the same name! The early nineties had a show on British television, the mid-nineties featured the American version of the show, and then the late 2000s saw the release of a brief one season run of Trivial Pursuit: America Plays. Now, the American show from the 90s was recently revived and is hosted by Levar Burton.

There's some trivia about trivial pursuit for you to bring out at your next game night. And check it out - the current show is pretty fun to watch too!

Pair up this Friday to meld your mind with a friend. Each round, you and your partner try to quickly write down as many things in the category rolled as you can. The goal isn't to have the most matches, but just enough to at least have the amount on the rolled die, but only one of you knows that value!

Race against your opponents to score the most each round. If you and your partner score enough points to each reach the centre first, your team wins! So find that friend where you can finish each other's sentences and team up to show everyone you have the best Like Minds.

Friday Feature No. 63 🖊📷

Everyone knows the feeling of having a word on the tip of your tongue. You just need the right clue to remember what you were thinking about. In Funglish you have all the different possible words to describe your hidden word and can't talk.

Communicate by placing descriptors into the 'Definitely', 'Kind Of', and 'Not' sections of the board. Guessers try to find the right word - that'll be on the tip of their tongue! - to help score points. Adjust your tiles and try to guide the guessers to the right word.

We know we have a big collection with hundreds of board games. Some people out there have even more in the thousands. But how many, for , would you have if you had all the games in the world?

Well the answer isn't super straightforward. Some people include games that are toy-like, for example Hungry Hungry Hippos (we certainly do!), while others are far stricter in the board game definition. It does make the answer hard to be clear cut. Either way, there are easily tens of thousands of board games.

Our trusted source for board games is Board Game Geek, an online tabletop gaming database. By their count, there are currently well over 180,000 games in existence today! In the business world, each year new SKUs are assigned to new games and there are recent years with around 5000 games being released! That means by 2030, we are likely to hit 200,000 games ever to have existed.

So, if you start now and want to try and play 5 different games a day, it would take you 100 years to get through the collection in existence today. And there would be hundreds of thousands more made in the meantime! There really is endless fun out there and a game for each and every one of us.
