26.2 miles, two countries, one bridge and a tunnel. Hats off to everyone who ran the Detroit Free Press Marathon today. This is us cheering from the porch.

Whatever finish line you crossed this weekend, the recovery plan is the same: kick off your shoes, pour something bubbly, and book a room at the Grove Hotel on Main Street in Kingsville. Stretching optional.

For four days Kingsville fills up with painters trying to capture the same lighthouse. Come judge them.

Great Migration Paint Out runs Thursday, October 15 through Sunday, October 18. Painters are out around town starting today.

Migration Festival is Friday to Sunday. The short version:

Friday: kick-off at the Grovedale Arts and Culture Centre. Doors at 6 pm, live music, pulled pork, $20.
Sunday: Paint Out show and sale at Grovedale, 1 to 5. Buy the one with the lighthouse. Or the goose. There's always a goose.

Kingsville has thrown a party for migrating birds for 57 years. The birds have never RSVP'd. They come anyway.

Migration Festival runs Friday, October 16 to Sunday, October 18. The short version:

Friday: the Great Migration Kick-Off at the Grovedale Arts and Culture Centre. Doors at 6 pm, live music, pulled pork, $20.
Saturday: a walking parade at Lakeside Park at 10, the Migration Marketplace in the Lakeside Park Pavilion from 10 to 4, and a Wild Goose Chase for the kids (and competitive adults). Out at the Jack Miner Sanctuary from 10 to 6: tours, a straw maze, the trout pond and a B**r Market from noon.
Sunday: pancake breakfast at Jack Miner's 8 to noon ($5 donation), a classic car show 10 to 2, and birds of prey with the Canadian Raptor Conservancy.

All weekend, painters set up easels around town for the Great Migration Paint Out, and Sunday from 1 to 5 their work goes on sale at Grovedale. Buy the one with the lighthouse. Or the goose. There's always a goose.
