🚨 Team Announcement 🚨

We’d like to take a moment to welcome Brennan as an honorary member of the Kirkland Lake Microtel Team!

Unfortunately, Brennan was caught trying to sneak out of her free labor early. As a result, she has been sent to mop jail, where she is doomed to mop for all eternity.

We’re calling on the community to help her. Any tips, bribes, or moral support to break her out are welcome, but no promises!

Nestled in the scenic community of Sw****ka, Ontario—just west of Kirkland Lake—you’ll find a peaceful local spot fondly known by residents as the duck pond. This small, tranquil area along the water is a favourite place for people to slow down, enjoy nature, and watch the ducks and other waterfowl that gather there. It’s a quiet slice of northern Ontario charm that reflects the easy‑going vibe of our region.

The town of Sw****ka has a long history dating back to its founding around the Sw****ka Gold Mine in 1908—well before the symbol became associated with World War II. Its name comes from the ancient Sanskrit symbol for good luck that was used in many cultures long before the mid‑20th century. Residents have actively preserved the original name through decades of debate and even government attempts to change it during wartime.

Today, Sw****ka and spots like the duck pond are part of the character of a community that balances its unique history with everyday life: quiet walks, feeding birds, and enjoying the natural beauty of northeastern Ontario.
