Welcome to Kitzi’s! If the kitchen’s the heart, this is definitely the soul of Bear Claw Lodge. 🍸
Designed and built by our own Robert Reindl,heli-ski guide, craftsman and longtime member of the Bear Claw family. Our bar is where the day’s adventures become the evening’s best stories.
It’s a place where tales are told, laughter is shared and new friendships are formed over delicious appetizers, cold Smithers Brewing beer and locally inspired cocktails whether foraged or gathered from our garden to bring a taste of Northern BC into every glass.
Come for the adventure. Stay for the stories. 📸📸Joshua James

Long before the first cast, there’s a familiar rhythm at Bear Claw Lodge. Coffee in hand. The morning’s first cigarette to accompany the “guide’s meeting”- talking through the day-where everyone is headed, what the rivers have been doing, and which flies might be the ones that put smiles on faces.
The kitchen fills with the smell of fresh breakfast as guides come and go, grabbing another cup of coffee before loading their rafts. Guests wander in, excited for the day ahead, asking where they’re fishing, what they should expect, and which tips are worth bringing along. Lunches are packed and waders are zipped as the morning unfolds in its own unhurried way.
Outside, the fog hangs low over the Kispiox while the first light begins to reach the valley. The mountains slowly emerge, the air carries that unmistakable autumn chill, and each morning is a quiet reminder that the days are growing shorter.
It’s a rhythm that repeats itself every fall. Familiar, unhurried, and deeply rooted in this place. The river sets the pace, and everyone settles into it.
Sometimes the most memorable part of fly fishing isn’t the fish—it’s the stillness, the anticipation, and the simple rituals that begin long before anyone steps into the river.

At Bear Claw Lodge, it’s always been about more than just the fishing. It’s about the moments you can’t quite put into words until you feel them yourself. The kind of days where the laughter never really stops, your cheeks hurt from smiling, your eyes crinkle from joy, and your stomach aches from laughing just a little too hard around the dinner table after a long day on the river.
That’s why we do what we do.
For the early mornings, the shared stories, the lifelong friendships formed between guides, guests, and crew. For the memories made on the water and the feeling of being completely present in a wild, beautiful place. Watching people arrive as strangers and leave feeling like family is the greatest reward of all.
These smiles are the reason behind every meal served, every boat launched, every fire lit, and every detail carefully prepared. All for the smiles. 🤍🎣😄

At Bear Claw Lodge, every window comes with its own magic! The dining room windows frame Mt. baldy while you enjoy locally inspired meals or beautiful mornings with coffee in hand. Bear tail cabin looks over a very different part of the river- no groomed lawns-just wilderness. From the sauna, the river view and Mt. Baldy can feel that much more peaceful surrounded by hot cedar air and complete stillness. Then there’s the bedroom views, where you wake up to the sound of the Kispiox. Luxury here feels quiet, natural, and deeply connected to wilderness. Which window view is your favourite?

This year Kispiox Fishing Company and Bear Claw Lodge will be donating the funds to a philanthropic organization made in Jon's honour.
This is a beautiful time to come to the Kispiox

Kispiox Fishing Company/Bear Claw Lodge along with the support of the Abshagen family would like to keep Jon Abshagen’s memory alive in the Kispiox Valley by auctioning his spot off every year. Each year, we will auction Jon’s rod and give the money to a non profit organization that Jon would ha...
