Truth and Reconciliation Day Free Skate

Join us at Tamitik Arena on September 30 for a free community skate in recognition of the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation.

09/30/2026

On the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, we take a moment to reflect, listen, and learn. 🧡

We recognize the importance of remembering the past and continuing to build a future rooted in understanding and reconciliation.

Tomorrow is the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation.

This day, first established in 2021, is to recognize residential school survivors, their families and communities and everyone who has been impacted.

We use this occasion to recognize the past while looking to the future, building our relationships and collaborations.

You can read more about the District's work with Haisla Nation at www.kitimat.ca/haisla, and flags in the community, as across the country, will be at half mast on Wednesday. As well, our offices will be closed.

Don't forget that there is a feast stew event in Kitamaat Village tonight open to everyone. We have added this event to or website's calendar: https://www.kitimat.ca/get-involved/events/feast-stew-dinner-for-truth-and-reconciliation

More about this occasion generally is available on the Government of Canada website here: https://www.canada.ca/en/canadian-heritage/campaigns/national-day-truth-reconciliation.html

Every stay at Microtel Kitimat can make a difference! This Earth Day, we are thrilled to announce our partnership with Veritree and our commitment to reforestation initiatives across Canada. 🌱

Guests will soon have the option to skip out on housekeeping, so those funds can be reinvested into the veritree program. Together, we’re not just planting trees — we’re helping bring ecosystems back to life.
