Nestled on the shore of breathtaking Bow Lake, the iconic red roof of The Lodge has punctuated Alberta’s world-class natural scenery since 1922. Today, a group of new owners committed to the preservation of the property’s history and the surrounding environment have come together to refurbish the recognizable structure to its former glory, with attention to modern sustainability practises and deep

respect for the history of the land itself. Throughout our restoration process our priorities are twofold:

1. To meet and exceed standards for land preservation and environmental practices set forth by Parks Canada;

2. And to create the setting for a truly one-of-a-kind accommodation experience focused on The Lodge’s natural, beautiful surroundings. A note on our name:

Formerly known as Simpson’s Num-Ti-Jah Lodge, The Lodge at Bow Lake honours the deep history of the property and individuals who built it while seeking to reconcile transgressions of the past. In working with Indigenous consultants and an Elder from the Stoney Nakoda Nation, it was determined that “Num Ti Jah” was not officially gifted to Jimmy Simpson. Therefore, at the Elder’s recommendation, the new stewards of The Lodge decided to remove it from the name.

Planning a fall visit to Moraine Lake or Lake Louise?

Set in the Valley of the Ten Peaks, Moraine Lake is known for its turquoise waters and dramatic mountain backdrop, while nearby Larch Valley offers one of the Rockies’ most memorable seasonal landscapes.

Our friends at Moraine Lake Bus Company make getting there easy, with frequent shuttle departures throughout the day. Moraine Lake is accessible by shuttle only, and parking at Lake Louise is very limited, so advance reservations are highly recommended.

Guests of The Lodge at Bow Lake receive 5% off Moraine Lake Bus Company bookings and can also add a Lake Louise Summer Gondola visit to their shuttle reservation, saving $15 per person.

We hate to bring this up, but... winter at The Lodge is worth planning early. 😉

Return to Bow Lake in a different season and experience quieter landscapes, guided ski touring and snowshoeing, cross-country skiing, nearby resort skiing, time in the sauna, and slow evenings by the fire.

A beautiful beginning to The Art at Bow Lake.

Earlier this season, we gathered at The Lodge for an evening with Terri Kelly Moyers, John Moyers, and Lisa Christensen to celebrate the opening of a very special exhibition.

Surrounded by the landscape that has inspired generations of artists, guests had the chance to experience the collection in the place it belongs: on the shores of Bow Lake.

The exhibition and sale continue throughout the summer/fall season, with rare landscapes by Terri Kelly Moyers and John Moyers displayed throughout The Lodge and available for purchase.

Interpretive Thursdays are back at The Lodge this summer!

Every Thursday at 4:00 PM, guests are invited to gather in Jimmy’s Living Room for an interpretive talk with Joel Hagen of Joel Hagen Interpretation.

A Master Guide who studied biology at Simon Fraser University and has called Banff National Park home for more than three decades, Joel brings the landscape around Bow Lake to life through interactive, entertaining talks on the area’s flora, fauna, history, and natural features.

This summer/fall, guests can enjoy Birds of the Rockies, a closer look at the remarkable adaptations and lifestyles of the birds that thrive in the high country.

Interpretive Thursdays are free for guests staying at The Lodge.

Our Legends of the Rockies evening series returns this summer/fall with an exciting start: Meghan J. Ward, mountain writer and historian, joins us for a screening of her documentary Wildflowers: In the footsteps of Mary Schäffer Warren.

In Wildflowers, Ward recruits a team of creative women to revisit Mary Schäffer Warren's 1908 expedition to Jasper's Maligne Lake — retracing a route that carried her through the landscapes around the Lodge at Bow Lake. Blending backcountry adventure with historical research, the film demonstrates that sometimes we must look back to blaze a better trail forward.

Wildflowers premiered at the 2024 Banff Centre Mountain Film Festival and has since toured worldwide. This is a rare opportunity to see it screened at The Lodge and learn more about Schäffer Warren's connections to this remarkable corner of the Canadian Rockies.

This special evening is all about great stories, amazing company, and unforgettable mountain vibes. We hope you’ll join us to soak it all in.

The Lodge opened its doors for the season this past weekend.

Bow Lake is shifting again — from snow and stillness into turquoise water, alpine trails, and long evenings gathered around the table.

There is something special about the first weekend back: rooms eagerly awaiting our first guests, meals beginning again in the Elkhorn Dining Room, and visitors returning to the quiet rhythm of this place.

The next chapter at Bow Lake begins...

Introducing, The Chalet at Bow Lake, a careful continuation of the vision that has helped create this place for generations: a place of welcome, rest, and connection in the heart of the most extraordinary landscapes in the Canadian Rockies.

Continuing the legacy of Jimmy Simpson and guided by the same responsibility that shaped the restoration of the historic lodge, The Chalet is designed with deep consideration for the stewardship of the land, the property's history, and the guests who will experience Bow Lake for years to come.

During the 2023 restoration of The Lodge, the room count was reduced to create a more thoughtful guest experience within the original building. The Chalet introduces a carefully considered number of new accommodations, including different configurations and rooms with the most spectacular views of Bow Lake, the Wapta Icefield, the surrounding forest, and the mountains beyond.

But more than that, The Chalet represents a continued commitment to caring for this place with respect for the past, responsibility for the future, and a deep understanding that every next chapter at Bow Lake must honour what came before.
