"Steady to Wing /Flush" OR "Steady to Wing shot and Fall"? There are two different camps on this topic of Upland Pointing dogs bird work..... One is dog safety as the dog is running while shots are fired and dog handling behavior. The other is fewer birds lost in thicker cover where a dog gets a better mark /locate on both wounded birds or dead birds, so a higher percentage of retrieves, thus losing fewer birds. Both camps have merit. But from strictly a hunting perspective using " Flushing dogs" the dog safety perspective is now moot because the dog is actively engaging the bird at flight and thus getting a better mark and a higher retrieval rate. So if the Flusher style of hunting is deemed an ethical hunting practice, why is "Steady to Wing" frowned on by certain Upland crowd?
