The Story of our Home
The house was originally built in 1906 for Captain Henry Winters, a schooner captain who fished on the Grand Banks. The house stayed in the Winters family for more than 70 years. The rear wing which now forms the owner's quarters was added about 40 years ago. One of Captain Winter's sons, Robert became a prominent Member of Parliament serving under Prime Ministers Louis St Laurent and Lester Pearson. He narrowly lost the election to succeed Pearson on the fourth vote...to Pierre Trudeau
