Travel + Leisure just put the Cabot Trail on the world's radar.

Our guests have been in on that secret for years -- staying right here in Mabou, taking the Trail by day, and coming home to their own private dome at night.

There's no better base for it. Your coastal adventure starts here. 🌊

We run Northeast Cove Geodomes in Mabou. Every summer, people travel from across North America to experience Cape Breton.

They come for the coastline, yes -- but what they talk about is the culture. The music, the dancing, the feeling that this place has held onto something the rest of the world has lost.

That doesn't happen by accident. It takes communities, artists, venues, programs, and yes -- funding.

So when Tim Houston's government cuts $130 million from arts, culture, and heritage programs, closes rural museums, and guts support for the things that make this island what it is -- that's not just a cultural loss. It's an economic one too, felt by every tourism business and every community on this island.

You can't post "SlĂĄinte" for Irish Heritage Month and defund the very thing you're celebrating.

Cape Breton deserves better than that.

March is Irish Heritage Month — a time to celebrate the deep Irish roots that helped shape Nova Scotia.

Grateful for the generations who helped build this province. Sláinte! 🍀

A Place With Time and Substance

As we prepare for the summer season, we wanted to share something we’ve learned from hosting guests over the years.

Many people arrive at Northeast Cove Geodomes needing to slow down. The first night is about settling in. After a bit of time, the pace eases and the experience begins to open up.

Part of that comes from the setting here — quiet, waterfront, and peaceful — but part of it comes from where we are.

Mabou rewards unhurried days. There are coastal hikes and long beach walks, a farmers’ market, local food, and evenings filled with live Celtic music, concerts, and ceilidhs. Beach days tend to happen naturally, depending on the weather and the mood of the day. Music nights happen when you feel like wandering out. And through it all, mornings at the cove remain calm and quiet.

Because of that balance, we encourage guests to give themselves more than just a quick visit whenever their schedule allows. With a little extra time, there’s no need to rush or try to fit everything in. You can hike one day, go to the beach the next, sit on the deck and do nothing at all — and still feel like you haven’t missed anything.

Short stays can be a lovely introduction. A longer stay lets both the place and the pace of Mabou really settle in.

We’ll be sharing more about Mabou and the surrounding area over the coming weeks. It’s a place that really rewards unhurried time.

Your 2026 Getaway at the Cove Opens for Booking Tomorrow

Our 2026 season opens for bookings tomorrow, and we’re already looking forward to welcoming everyone back to Northeast Cove.

We’ll be open from May 1 to October 17 next year.

For anyone who loves the quieter months, we’ve added shoulder season rates at $199/night —
May 1 to June 15 and October 1 to 17 — and you can now book single-night stays during those times.

Peak summer runs June 15 to September 30 at $279/night with a two-night minimum.

And since people have already been asking, we’ll have gift certificates available for Christmas again this year — always a nice way to surprise someone who enjoys a peaceful getaway by the water.

If you have favourite dates or weekends in mind, it’s worth booking early. Summer fills quickly.

Looking forward to seeing everyone back at the cove next season.

Apparently this peaceful view from Northeast Cove was flagged by Facebook for “promoting dangerous organizations.”

To be clear — it’s just a chair, a deck, and a Cape Breton sunset. No secret symbols, no messages, just nature doing what it does best.

Sometimes the algorithm really reminds us how far from human judgment we’ve drifted.

A lobster right under our docks! 🦞

I was filming off the dock here at Northeast Cove this morning, scanning along the ocean floor, when I spotted a lobster just crawling around like he owned the place. You’ve got to watch for a bit before you see him, but once you do, it’s a treat.

The Gulf of St. Lawrence is famous for its lobster — that’s where the fishermen head with their traps — but I didn’t realize they were coming this far inside Mabou Harbour. We’re a good four kilometres in from the open Gulf, and yet here he was, right beneath the domes.

The Northeast Cove is full of life — bass, trout, the odd salmon, and now apparently more and more lobster showing up in these cold, sheltered waters. Add in the eagles, herons, beavers, muskrats, geese, oysters, and mussels, and it’s clear this little corner of Cape Breton is thriving above and below the surface.

🍁 Fall Along the Celtic Shores Coastal Trail – Just Minutes from Northeast Cove 🍁

We walked the Southwest Mabou section of the Celtic Shores Coastal Trail this week — about 3 km in to the old iron bridge and back. Even on a cloudy day, the colors were incredible — gold, red, and every shade in between.

Many of our guests take the complimentary bikes from the domes and ride this same stretch — it’s one of the best ways to soak in the fall colors and the quiet beauty of the Southwest Mabou River.

This trail never disappoints. Every turn, every bridge, every scatter of leaves reminds you to slow down and enjoy where you are.

🍁 Fall at Northeast Cove

It’s the best time of year to be in Mabou. The hills are glowing with exceptional colour, the Celtic Colours Music Festival is in full swing, and the Red Shoe Pub is alive with music and laughter every night.

You can even kayak out into the harbour and see the reds and golds reflected all around you — it’s Cape Breton at its finest.

🍂 Happy Thanksgiving to our Canadian friends, and warm wishes to all our guests from around the world who’ve made Northeast Cove part of their story this season.

Our domes are warm, cozy, and right at the heart of it all.

✨ From Our Guestbook ✨

There’s something special about hearing it in our guests’ own words. Barb & Rick captured so much of what makes Northeast Cove Geodomes unique — from stargazing in bed through the skylight, to kayaking down the river with eagles, kingfishers, hawks, and terns overhead, to waking up with fresh coffee and a cozy bed.

We love seeing our guests experience the magic of this place — the wild beauty outside and the little touches inside that make it feel like home. 💫🌊☕
