🍂🧡 Happy Thanksgiving from our family to yours! 🧡🍂

As we take a moment this Thanksgiving to reflect on the past year, we find ourselves feeling incredibly grateful.

For those who may not know, Jason and I are the proud co-owners of both Jason Roy Home Renovations Ltd. and Windrose Cottage. Two very different businesses, but both built on the same values — hard work, pride in what we do, personal connections, and a genuine appreciation for the people who put their trust in us.

To our renovation clients, thank you for trusting us with your homes. We know that your home is so much more than four walls. It's where life happens, families grow, and memories are made. Being invited into those spaces to help bring your visions to life is something we never take for granted.

To our Windrose Cottage guests, thank you for trusting us with your precious time away. Whether it's a family getaway, a weekend with friends, a special celebration, or simply a chance to slow down, knowing that our little piece of paradise has become part of your treasured memories means more to us than you know.

You may have noticed we've been a little quieter on social media lately! The truth is, both businesses are incredibly busy during the warmer months, and this year has certainly been no exception. Like many small business owners with seasonal demands, we spend much of that time working long days, making the most of every opportunity, and preparing for the slower winter months. Sometimes that means there's not much time left to share what we've been up to!

But please know that even when we're quiet on here, we never lose sight of the people who make it all possible.

To our clients, guests, returning customers, friends, family, and everyone who recommends us, shares our posts, leaves a review, or simply cheers us on — thank you. Your continued support allows us to keep doing what we love, and we are so very thankful.

A few unexpected openings have popped up at Windrose Cottage, and perhaps one of them is just what you've been needing. ❤️

Fall has arrived at the lake, and while the seasons are changing, the beauty certainly hasn't disappeared. There's still so much to enjoy here — peaceful mornings overlooking the water, colourful autumn scenery, cozy evenings, a relaxing soak in the hot tub, and time to simply be together.

We know life is expensive these days, and sometimes a big vacation just isn't in the cards. But a couple of nights away, especially when shared with friends or family, can be a wonderful way to recharge without travelling far from home.

Well, this was a pretty lovely surprise. 🤍

Windrose Cottage has been nominated for CommunityVotes Halifax 2026!

Considering we only opened the doors to Windrose in June 2025, seeing our little cottage included alongside so many established accommodations feels pretty special.

When we created Windrose, we wanted it to be more than simply a place to stay. We wanted it to be a place where people could slow down, reconnect, laugh around the table, sit by the lake, make memories and leave with a little piece of Windrose in their story.

Over this past year, we’ve welcomed couples, families, friends celebrating milestones, girls’ weekends, quiet getaways and guests discovering this beautiful part of Nova Scotia for the first time. And somehow, somewhere along the way, someone decided Windrose deserved a nomination. ❤️

In about half an hour, summer will quietly make way for fall.
But here at Windrose, we don't rush the changing of the seasons. We let each one have its moment. We soak it in, appreciate what it gave us, and then welcome what's coming next with open arms. 🤍
And Summer 2026… you were something special.
Long days on the lake. Bare feet on the dock. Morning coffees, evening fires, swims that lasted a little longer than planned, gardens growing, sunsets glowing, and a cottage filled with families, friends, laughter and memories.
So before the leaves begin to turn and Windrose settles into all the cozy beauty of fall, this is our little love letter to summer.
Thank you for the sunshine.
Thank you for the lake days.
Thank you for the people who found their way here.
Thank you for the memories made within these walls and along this shore.
We won't wish you away.
But when fall arrives tonight, we'll welcome her too—with open arms. 🍂

Rainy days at Windrose have a charm all their own. 🌧️🤍
Of course we love those sunny days spent out on the lake, but when the rain rolls in, the sunroom might just be our favourite place to be.
Curl up with a coffee and a good book, pull out one of the puzzles or board games, put on a record, watch an old movie… or simply sit back and listen to the rain.
Because a cottage getaway doesn’t need blue skies to be a good one. Sometimes the slower days—the cozy ones spent together with nowhere you need to be—end up being some of the best. 🏡🌿
And on a rainy Nova Scotia day like today, this is exactly where we’d want to be. ♥️

🐾 Meet the REAL owners of Windrose Cottage 🐾
We often say Windrose is our family cottage — but if we’re being completely accurate, it really belongs to these three. ❤️
Meet the furry faces behind Windrose:
🐾 Charlie, 13 — our Portuguese Water Dog who, ironically, hates the water. 😂 His favourite Windrose activity is slowly pacing around the kitchen island waiting for someone — anyone — to drop food.
🐾 Princess Leia, 6 — the complete opposite. Leia LOVES the water. Getting her into the lake is never the problem. Getting her back out is another story.
🐾 Lexi, 2 — our baby, who thinks the Windrose hill was specifically designed for her to run up and down at full speed, living her absolute best life with those ears flapping in the wind.
Windrose is their home too. The dog beds and toys you see around the cottage belong to them, and they’re very happy to share them with the furry family members who come to stay. 🐶
Because we’re animal people ourselves, being pet-friendly has always been important to us. We know how much better a family getaway can be when the WHOLE family gets to come.
We also want to explain something about our pet fee, especially for anyone considering bringing their four-legged family member along.
We do not charge our guests a general cleaning fee at Windrose.
We do, however, charge a small flat $50 pet fee per stay.
As much as we adore animals, the reality is that pets add another level to the cleaning between guests — fur on furniture and bedding, floors that need extra attention, nose prints, muddy or wet paws and all those little signs that tell us a furry guest has been enjoying their vacation too. 🐾
That $50 isn't about discouraging pets. Quite the opposite. It helps us continue welcoming them while making sure Windrose is thoroughly cleaned and ready for the next guests — especially those who may not be travelling with pets.
All we ask is that pets are included on your reservation when booking so we know they're coming. It also means we can make sure everything is ready for them too. ❤️
Charlie, Leia and Lexi wouldn't have it any other way.
After all, they just let Jason and me manage the place. 😉🌿

Today it is anything but peaceful! Like many other rural properties over the last few years we have had some well troubles. Always trying to improve and grow we are drilling deeper. We took a small opening in the schedule to get this done. Many levels of Windrose and today it is loud! Ps. Brewsters drilling has been top notch through this entire situation. I would highly recommend them!
