Cozy cabin the winter for the holidays

I had the opportunity to Travel to Paris, France 🇫🇷 last week to attend the French Decade of the Cryosphere, the study and climate change initiatives of Frozen bodies of water including glaciers, icebergs, sea ice and snow.

In my culture of Nehiyaw- Cree with roots in Flying Dust First Nation and Canoe Lake Cree First Nation, treaty 6 & 10 Saskatchewan, my family still practices gift giving.

I was able gift the founder of the foundation Frederick Paulsen and custom native made Beaver winter gloves with the France 🇫🇷 flag embroided.

I’m proud of where I come from and am looking forward to seeing the initiatives of the Albedo foundation.

Went and checked out the Flying Dust youth fall culture camp tonight, seen my old friend Troy who is running the culture camp this year.

Most communities this time of the year will have fall camps like similar to this one. This year they are staying at the FDFN cabins.

This week we had the honour of hosting the summer class of 3rd and 4th year students during their northern economic development learning trip. 🌿✨

Throughout the day, we shared:
🔸 Insights on First Nation economic development, including the First Nation Land Management Act (FNLMA) and the ability for Nations to manage lands outside of the Indian Act.
🔸 The importance of Treaty Land Entitlement and Specific Claim settlements for Flying Dust First Nation.
🔸 Nehiyaw history — from the fur trade economy in the North, to the Plains Cree with horses and bison in the South. Treaty 6 Flying Dust First Nation and Treaty 10 Canoe Lake Cree First Nation.

Students also learned how to set up a tipi, enjoyed a beautiful meal catered by my cousin Kimberley, and heard stories directly from my family:
- My mother, Marcia Mirasty, spoke about history and health programs in Meadow Lake Tribal Council.
- My father, Rico Mirasty, shared on governance and his experiences as a past Chief of Flying Dust.

At Cree North Adventures, we are proud to be a family operation sharing our stories and knowledge. I believe the upcoming generation of First Nation youth have incredible opportunities to start businesses and grow with more resources and support now than when I first started thinking of entrepreneurship.
